Role Overview:
The research focuses on heavy precipitation events (HPEs) resulting in flash floods (FFs) across the Spanish Mediterranean region. Hydrometeorological extremes are becoming more severe in the era of climate change, prompting the international research community to investigate the relevant underlying physical processes, interconnections and variability. Evidence suggests that in order to better support emergency management and tackle future challenges, a deeper understanding of spatiotemporal factors driving HPEs and FFs, and how these are changing over time, is crucial.

Responsibilities:
- Analyse key HPE and FF properties.
- Delve into the features of HPEs, with a particular focus on dynamics and thermodynamics, organisation, quasi-stationarity, spatial extension and duration, precipitation rates and total accumulation.
- Investigate how these factors impact the magnitude and timing of FFs in small-to-medium semi-arid basins.
- Perform high-resolution spatial and temporal numerical simulations by using different meteorological and hydrological models.
- Give special consideration to the effects of prominent climate drivers and climate change.

Requirements and Qualifications:
- Education: Master’s degree in Geophysical Fluid Sciences or related fields, or a Master’s qualification in the scientific area of Geophysical Fluid Sciences or related fields.
- Experience: Experience developing and implementing analytical/numerical methods, and having designed and taken part in previous research projects.
- Language: English would be a plus.
- Eligibility: Candidates must meet an eligibility threshold of 60 points based on official degrees, curricular merits, video curriculum/interview, work experience, and other merits. Non-EU degree holders must present a certificate of equivalence or proof of application for equivalence.
