IT Quality Assurance Senior Specialist
Salary: $94,620 - 127,248 per year
Requirements:
We need a bachelors degree, or equivalent, in information technology systems or computer science, plus seven years of professional experience as a test analyst using software testing methodologies. We need experience with hierarchical and relational database management systems, web and/or client-server application testing, industry test workflow and requirements definition tools, and XML, SQL, and file manager tools. We need an associates degree, or equivalent, in information systems or computer science, plus nine years of professional test analyst experience with the same technical background, or eleven years of equivalent professional test analyst experience. We need at least two years of professional leadership experience within a QA team. Preferred qualifications include three years of experience solving complex problems through imaginative, innovative, and creative leadership. A software testing certification is preferred.
Responsibilities:
We ensure the quality of coding changes delivered for ACES applications that support food, cash, and medical benefits. We lead testing for complex projects and oversee environment maintenance and patching across multiple test environments. We make decisions and complete tasks related to test environment maintenance and access. We apply strategic expertise to improve existing processes and develop new approaches, methods, and procedures. We research emerging technologies and tools, recommend implementation options, and guide integration efforts. We train new staff and provide advanced coaching to existing staff on testing principles, concepts, and practices. We maintain relationships with state and federal agency partners to coordinate testing for shared functionality. We partner with project managers, business analysts, and key stakeholders to support accurate bug triage, prioritization, and timely escalation of issues. We participate across the full software development lifecycle, including requirements and design review, coding, testing, deployment, defect management, and reporting test results. We guide testing efforts, mentor team members, review work products, and help ensure system updates are ready for production. We support occasional evening, weekend, and on-call work when needed for critical issue resolution and production support.

We are the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services, through our Finance, Technology, and Analytics Administration and Division of Information Technology Quality Assurance team. We support the validation of coding changes for large, complex eligibility systems that administer cash, food, and medical assistance to Washington residents. This is a project appointment with a limited duration, currently anticipated through June 2027, with the possibility of extension. The role is based in Olympia, Washington, and offers flexible hybrid work options, with most work able to be performed remotely or on site.
