Responsibilities
Lead and manage the multi-phase migration program from SQL Server to PostgreSQL on AWS RDS, setting direction, defining timelines, allocating resources, and ensuring minimal downtime and full data integrity. Oversee and mentor the DBA team responsible for administering both SQL Server and PostgreSQL during the transition, guiding them in performance tuning, monitoring, incident response, capacity planning, and security hardening. Develop and govern migration strategies, including schema modernization, data replication patterns, cutover execution, and application compatibility validation. Provide operational oversight by establishing processes for root-cause analysis, proactive issue detection, and environment stabilization. Collaborate with engineering, application teams, and cloud architects to ensure database architecture aligns with business goals and scalability standards. Drive documentation, standards, and knowledge-sharing frameworks including playbooks and runbooks.
