Requirements:
We need at least 5 years of non-internship professional software development experience. We look for at least 5 years of experience leading design or architecture for new and existing systems, including design patterns, reliability, and scaling. We require at least 5 years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations. We expect at least 5 years of programming experience in at least one software language. We want experience as a mentor, technical lead, or engineering team lead. A bachelors degree in computer science or an equivalent background is preferred. We value production experience with C++ or TypeScript. We prefer experience with robotics frameworks such as ROS or ROS2. We value experience building autonomous navigation systems, including motion planning, perception, SLAM, or task planning and action generation from machine learning models. We prefer experience with machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, TensorRT, or PyTorch, and integrating ML models into production systems. We value experience with embedded systems or real-time software development.
Responsibilities:
We will lead the technical direction for core components of our autonomous navigation stack, including task planning, motion planning, control, and navigation software. We will own team-level architecture decisions and guide the evolution of our production robotics systems. We will design general solutions that help our robots operate safely and efficiently across a wide range of environments and use cases. We will architect and implement next-generation ML- and AI-based motion planning and task planning systems. We will provide architectural direction and mentorship to engineers at all levels within a collaborative team of Applied Scientists and Software Development Engineers. We will work across Perception, SLAM, Infrastructure, Fleet Management, and Coordination Services to deliver robust, scalable, highly reliable autonomous navigation solutions. We will lead projects that require multiple engineers and ensure cohesive integration and technical quality. We will design motion planning and task planning systems that adapt to new scenarios and environments. We will develop and refine motion planning algorithms. We will build and maintain training pipelines for machine learning-based motion planning. We will develop metrics, analysis frameworks, and proactive alerting tools to diagnose motion planning and navigation issues. We will align software interfaces across Perception, SLAM, Infrastructure, and Fleet Management. We will set code quality standards and write strong C++, TypeScript, Python, and ROS/ROS2 code. We will mentor engineers through design reviews and code reviews to strengthen team capabilities.
