Automation Engineer - Waunakee

USA💼 Full-time💰 $70,000–$135,000🗓 2026-08-01 → 2026-08-02

Salary: $70,000 - 135,000 per year
Requirements:
We need at least 3 years of hands-on PLC and HMI development experience on Rockwell or Allen-Bradley platforms, including ControlLogix or CompactLogix and Studio 5000 or RSLogix 5000. We need practical experience with Ladder Logic, Structured Text, and Function Block programming. We need a solid grasp of industrial networking, especially EtherNet/IP, with DeviceNet considered an advantage. We need experience working in regulated manufacturing settings. We need strong documentation discipline and comfort operating within change control processes. We need the ability to troubleshoot automation issues independently on the plant floor. We need a 2-year technical degree in Automation, Electronics, Instrumentation, or a related field; a 4-year electrical engineering degree is not required. A background of 5+ years in pharmaceutical, API, or other FDA-regulated manufacturing is a strong plus. Experience with PlantPAx DCS, ISA-88/S88 batch control, FactoryTalk Historian, FactoryTalk Batch, CSV, or GAMP 5 would strengthen a profile. We prefer people who write clean, maintainable code that others can support.
Responsibilities:
We design, write, update, and troubleshoot PLC code using Rockwell ControlLogix and CompactLogix in Studio 5000 or RSLogix 5000. We build and maintain HMI applications in FactoryTalk View SE. We work in a cGMP pharmaceutical environment while following strict validation, documentation, and change control standards. We support IQ, OQ, and PQ validation activities and help maintain compliance with 21 CFR Part 11 and ALCOA+ data integrity principles. We keep revision-controlled technical documentation current, including functional specifications, code comments, and change logs. We migrate legacy and standalone systems into a standardized plant-wide Rockwell architecture. We support automation for utilities and facility systems such as HVAC, alarms, and monitoring. We partner closely with Maintenance, Engineering, and Quality to resolve issues and improve reliability. We take part in an on-call rotation after ramp-up, typically about one week per month. We contribute to plant-wide modernization by expanding alarms, historian data, asset models, and operator-focused HMIs. We help move operations away from paper-based or paper-on-glass processes toward more integrated automation.
Technologies:
API Ethernet Support PLC Hardware
More:
We are partnered with a well-established pharmaceutical manufacturer that is making significant long-term investments in plant-wide automation, data integrity, and system modernization. This is a hands-on automation engineer role for someone who wants genuine technical ownership and the chance to directly shape how a complex GMP manufacturing site operates. The site is standardized on Rockwell and is already well into major CSV and automation initiatives, with more modernization ahead. The position is onsite at a single manufacturing location with no travel, a standard daytime schedule, limited off-hours except during on-call rotation, and a competitive base salary with a full benefits package including medical, retirement, PTO, and paid holidays. We are part of ManpowerGroup, a global workforce solutions company with a long-standing reputation for supporting candidates and clients across many industries.
