Automation Software Engineer - GSE

Salary: $110,000 - 160,000 per year
Requirements:
We require U.S. citizenship, U.S. national status, or Green Card holder status due to ITAR restrictions. We need strong proficiency in Python. We look for experience with instrument control frameworks such as PyVISA, VISA, SCPI, or similar automation environments. We require experience connecting software with laboratory instruments or hardware systems. We expect strong troubleshooting ability across software, instrumentation, and hardware interactions. We need someone who can thrive in hands-on laboratory settings supporting technical hardware teams. We value strong organizational, communication, documentation, and practical problem-solving skills. We require a bachelors degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent practical experience. We require at least 2 years of experience in software development, automation engineering, engineering tools development, or hardware-interfacing software work. Preferred experience includes power electronics, battery systems, aerospace electronics, industrial automation, or embedded hardware environments. Preferred experience includes DAQs, programmable power supplies, electronic loads, oscilloscopes, switching systems, or other instrumentation-heavy workflows. Preferred familiarity with Grafana, dashboards, telemetry visualization, or engineering monitoring tools. Preferred experience with databases, SQL, or engineering data pipelines. Preferred familiarity with Linux engineering environments. Preferred experience supporting production automation or scalable engineering validation systems.
Responsibilities:
We develop, maintain, and operate Python-based automation systems that support aerospace power systems development, validation, and production activities. We build and maintain automation code that interfaces with laboratory equipment such as programmable power supplies, electronic loads, DAQs, DMMs, oscilloscopes, switching systems, and related devices. We use PyVISA, SCPI, and similar instrument-control frameworks to support our automation solutions. We troubleshoot issues across automation software, instrumentation, communications, hardware interfaces, test infrastructure, and system interactions. We support debugging of product issues, GSE failures, automation anomalies, and operational test interruptions. We develop engineering utilities, scripts, dashboards, logging systems, and operational support tools. We support the collection, storage, visualization, and analysis of operational and test data. We work closely with electrical, hardware, software, and production teams to improve repeatability, scalability, and reliability of automated engineering workflows. We maintain software documentation, operational procedures, troubleshooting guides, and configuration-controlled automation assets. We support extended lab operations, off-shift activities, or off-site work as needed. We perform other assigned duties as required.
