Founding UI/UX & Graphic Designer
About the Role
This is a rare founding design opportunity at a Y Combinator–backed consumer wearable company operating at the intersection of hardware, health, and human emotion. With prototypes already on users' wrists and a launch film live, the product is real and moving fast.
You will be the first design hire — owning the full consumer-facing design stack from day one. The founding team brings deep pedigree in consumer hardware (ex-Apple), and aesthetics and taste are at the absolute core of this brand. A compelling portfolio is the single most important factor in this hire.
This role can be based in London or San Francisco, and is expected to grow into a design leadership position as the company scales.
What You'll Do
• Own the end-to-end UI/UX design for the iOS app, from concept through high-fidelity production assets
• Design and maintain the consumer website, ensuring a cohesive, premium brand experience
• Create all social media, email, and communications design across every consumer touchpoint
• Design event invitations, launch collateral, and campaign materials
• Define and steward the brand's visual language — ensuring consistency across hardware, digital, and print
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product, hardware, and marketing teams in a fast-moving early-stage environment
What We're Looking For
Required:
• A standout portfolio demonstrating UI/UX design for consumer apps and broader brand design — website, social, email, invitations, and events
• Strong graphic design fundamentals; exceptional aesthetic sensibility and taste
• Proficiency in Figma and Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop); ability to produce both high-fidelity UI and polished marketing assets
• Proven experience designing iOS apps in accordance with Apple's Human Interface Guidelines
• Ability to translate a brand identity into every consumer-facing touchpoint with a consistent visual language
• Self-starter mentality; comfortable operating with autonomy in an early-stage startup
• Eligibility to work in the United Kingdom (London) or the United States (San Francisco) without company visa sponsorship — visa transfers are welcome
Strong signals (nice to have):
• Degree from a top design school (e.g. Royal College of Art, RISD, or equivalent)
• Prior experience at a consumer company known for exceptional, taste-driven product design
Compensation & Benefits
• Salary: ~$150,000 USD (US-based) / ~£75,000 GBP (London-based)
• Equity: Up to 1–2% — meaningful founding-level ownership
• The company has recently closed a seed round with angels and strategic partners
• Visa sponsorship: Not available for new sponsorships; visa transfers are acceptable
Location
Primary office in London, United Kingdom; a San Francisco, USA base is also an option. On-site or hybrid presence is expected — fully remote candidates will be considered on a case-by-case basis depending on location.
