Role Overview
The Department of Political Science in the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Antwerp is looking for a full-time (100%) doctoral scholarship holder in the field of International Relations. Responsibilities
- Actively work on the preparation and defence of a PhD thesis in International Relations.
- Conduct independent research on concepts of war and peace in a changing international environment, with a focus on conceptions of peace and war, technology, and their intersections.
- Collaborate with supervisors (Professors Marijn Hoijtink and Jorg Kustermans) on research and international scientific publications, or write them independently.
- Prepare a research funding proposal, if eligible.
- Present research at conferences and workshops and contribute to science communication.
- Carry out a limited number of teaching and research support tasks for the Department of Political Science and the International Politics research group.

Requirements and Qualifications
- Hold a master's degree in International Relations or a related field, or have obtained it by the time work starts.
- Demonstrate excellent academic results.
- Be familiar with central debates and theories in International Relations and have experience conducting qualitative and interpretive research.
- Possess an independent research vision and a strong interest in collaborative research activities.
- Speak and write fluently in English.
- A good command of Dutch is considered an added value for teaching support tasks.
- Teaching competencies in line with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision.
- Research qualities in line with faculty and university research policies.
- Act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity, and cooperation.
- Regional expertise is considered an asset.
