Job Overview
The applicant will work within the Institute of Coastal System Analysis and Modeling, contributing to EU Research and Innovation Action projects aimed at developing new products to predict and protect marine ecosystem biodiversity. The role focuses on illustrating applications within Digital Twins of the Ocean by fostering innovation and collaboration across various disciplines. The primary focus of the modelling will be on coupled hydrodynamical-wind waves and sediment modelling. This work contributes to the development of Digital Ocean Twins, showcasing diverse frameworks and demonstrating capabilities through selected case studies in the offshore industry sector. The initiative aims to improve the understanding of intricate marine systems, considering physical, biological, ecological, and economic determinants to aid informed policymaking. The position builds on recent modelling and Artificial Intelligence (AI) scientific developments, offering prospects for a career in earth system and climate sciences, Digital Ocean Twins, and multiuse of resources.

Responsibilities
* Use coupled modelling frameworks of the ocean, including hydrodynamics, wind waves, biogeochemistry, and suspended sediment dynamics.
* Set up cross-sectorial scenario simulations, including climate scenarios and multiuse scenarios.
* Collaborate closely with project partners from across Europe.
* Utilize state-of-the-art tools (training provided by the team).
* Contribute to the EU Horizon Mission Ocean project, supporting the goals of the European Green Deal Initiative.
* Communicate results to different audiences, including the general public, in relation to dissemination activities.

Requirements and Qualifications
* Master’s Degree and PhD in (ocean) modelling (e.g., oceanography, physics, mathematics, computer science, data science, biogeochemistry, meteorology).
* Capacity and interest to work in different fields of marine science, including physics, biogeochemistry, ecological processes, and environmental engineering.
* Good programming or data science skills.
* Very good written and verbal English communication skills.
* Good communication skills for disseminating results to diverse audiences.
