About JetBrains Air

JetBrains has been building developer tools since 2000 — including IntelliJ IDEA, Kotlin, TeamCity, and more, now trusted by 15M+ developers at 287K companies worldwide. The company is 100% private, profitable, and driven by a single thesis: great tools make developers better.

Air is what JetBrains is building next: an agentic development environment where multiple AI agents run tasks in parallel while the developer stays in control. It’s a genuinely new kind of developer tool — spanning a native desktop app, an expanding web experience, and cloud-based automations. It’s the next frontier after IDEs: not just helping developers write code, but helping them orchestrate it.

The Air design team is two people now — and you’d be the third. Your primary focus will be the web surface and the automations sub-team: an emerging part of the product that is ready for dedicated design ownership, with a real opportunity to raise the bar and shape the experience from the ground up.

What you’ll be working on

• Design the web interface for Air: team management, automation setup, and a results overview

• Shape the design process for the automations sub-team, working directly with developers to establish review and handoff practices

• Take features from ambiguous briefs to shipped interfaces

• Contribute to the shared design system: add and maintain components in Figma as the product grows

• Vibe-code and use AI for prototyping when it helps move ideas forward faster

• Participate in cross-team demos and quarterly planning, bringing a design perspective to where Air should go next

What you need

• 5+ years of product design experience, with great examples of delivering results that impact the business.

• Ownership instinct. You see features through from design to production. Delivery is part of your definition of done.

• Excellent cross-team project delivery. You can work with limited context, clarify what matters, define the scope, and move projects forward across teams without needing constant hand-holding.

• Active AI user. You use AI tools in your design workflow. You’ve experimented with building or prototyping with Cursor, Claude, or similar. This market moves weekly; you should too.

• Solid Figma skills. Proficient with components, tokens/variables, and design systems — you can navigate an existing UI kit, understand how it works, and contribute new components as the product grows.

Nice to have:

• Experience with developer-focused products or technical tooling (IDEs, dashboards, data tools)

• Experience with vibe-coding, design engineering, or code-level prototypes

• Familiarity with agentic or AI-native interface patterns — trust signals, human-in-the-loop, error handling at scale

What you get

• Rare product scope. Work on a product that could define the next generation of developer tooling — small team, direct impact, decisions that ship fast.

• JetBrains’ culture. Engineering-first, quality-focused, 100% private. No VC pressure, no artificial growth targets.

• Competitive compensation and benefits — location-dependent, with a full breakdown available on request.
