Role Overview
Beijing Normal-Hong Kong Baptist University (BNBU) invites candidates for the position of Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in Music Performance (Ref: SCC260613), expected to be filled in February 2027. The successful candidate will provide academic leadership in musicology, playing a central role in the design, development, and delivery of courses across the historical, cultural, and analytical dimensions of the Music curriculum. The post-holder will be expected to maintain a research profile and to contribute to the collegial and administrative life of the department.

Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Curriculum
- Design and deliver undergraduate courses in musicology, including music history, cultural analysis, and analytical methods.
- Provide academic leadership in musicology, contributing to the long-term development and coherence of the Musical Arts programme.
- Supervise student independent study, dissertations, and final-year projects in relevant areas.
- Participate in the department’s assessment and feedback processes, maintaining high standards of student learning and academic rigour.

Research and Scholarship
- Maintain an active and developing research profile in musicology or a closely related field.
- Contribute to the department’s and institution’s research culture through publication and engagement with relevant scholarly communities.
- Where appropriate, connect research activity to teaching and curriculum development.

Administration and Collegial Contribution
- Participate fully in departmental meetings, working groups, and quality assurance processes.
- Contribute to student recruitment, open days, and outreach activities.
- Support the department’s engagement with the broader institutional, regional, and professional community.

Requirements and Qualifications
Essential
- PhD in Musicology or a closely related discipline.
- Experience of undergraduate teaching in musicology or music history.
- Ability to teach effectively across the historical, cultural, and analytical dimensions of a music curriculum.
- Strong written and spoken English; ability to teach effectively in an English-medium environment.
- Evidence of research activity and scholarly publication commensurate with career stage.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a small, multidisciplinary department.

Desirable
- Expertise in Chinese music, whether historical, ethnomusicological, or analytical.
- Practical performance experience or expertise, including Chinese music.
- Experience in curriculum design and programme development.
- Familiarity with liberal arts educational models.
- Proficiency in Mandarin.
- Experience working in international or cross-cultural academic environments.
