## About the Role
Steer is looking for a Principal Engineer to lead the technical direction of a newly formed team building greenfield, high-impact products for the $200B auto repair industry. This is a pivotal role where you will architect, design, and ship agentic, customer-facing systems that redefine how small businesses operate.
You will set the technical vision, drive critical architectural decisions, and work closely with product and engineering leadership to shape Steer's future. The products you build will reach millions of car owners and establish the foundation for the next generation of our platform.

- Lead complex system design - Architect and build scalable, secure, and resilient systems that support new product lines and high-growth usage patterns.
- Drive execution across the stack - Work hands-on across backend, frontend, infrastructure, and data layers to deliver features end to end.
- Mentor and elevate the team - Provide technical leadership, support senior engineers, and help create an engineering culture focused on excellence and velocity.
- Shape product direction - Partner with product leaders to translate ideas into technical plans and ensure we are building high-impact, customer-facing solutions.
- Strengthen DevOps and reliability - Improve CI/CD, observability, performance, security, and deployment practices across the engineering organization.
- Champion quality and scalability - Set the bar for code quality, system reliability, testing, and operational health.
