## About the Role
Wells Group is seeking a Finance and Accounting Manager with 5+ years of experience. Wells Group is a boutique management consulting firm offering fractional CFO (strategic finance) and Controller (Accounting) services for startups and growth companies. The firm consists of a team of ~20 and advises companies operating in consumer goods, DTC/ecommerce, SaaS/technology, healthcare, food & beverage, and media, among other industries. We run extremely flat and are looking for someone that can not only execute but also become a core member of our team and contribute to the mission, vision, and culture both at Wells Group and for our clients. This is a salaried full-time position.
In summary, this individual will be a key part of the strategic finance team for clients; the individual will leverage financial data and forecasting to advise clients on performance, decision making, risks, and opportunities for their business.
## Responsibilities
- Manage client relationships; work directly with clients to manage the operations of their business, advise on strategy, and execute all components of their finance and accounting needs.
- Understand the client's financial and operational strategies; oversee Wells Group team as it relates to financial modeling and the development of key metrics that support the client's strategic plan.
- Possess operational and financial business capabilities as it relates to cash forecasting, financial & KPI reporting, business operations support and support to leadership on fundraising efforts.
- Develop and monitor business unit KPIs (ex. revenue growth, profitability margins, marketing efficiencies, etc.).
- Create presentations and compile quantitative data for purpose of decks and/or data rooms with audience in mind being investors, lenders, and/or Leadership.
- Develop and manage relationships with outside partners /vendors – including client legal counsel, CPA, auditors, banks, software vendors, consultants, etc.
- Oversee preparation of financial statements and other financial reports.
- Oversee month-end close process and other assigned department related tasks for multiple clients, as necessary.
- Analyze financial results on a monthly basis and report on variances versus plan and prior periods to efficiently report results to clients' Leadership.
- Ensure data integrity for assigned accounts including understanding of required upstream internal controls over financial reporting.
- Investigate reporting discrepancies and communicate issues, effectively and in a timely manner.
- Lead process for calculation, presentation and communication of company-wide KPI's.
- Maintain "Hands on" attitude with each client – know the senior leaders at the client, understand the business challenges, know what work Wells Group is doing and why; be counted on to make key decisions as needed. Know about any issue before it turns into a problem.
- Consistently evaluate areas for process improvement and automation.
- Partake in ad hoc accounting or finance projects and analysis, as assigned.
- Ensure oversight of junior team responsibilities including providing clear direction for work and reviewing / analyzing results.
- Understand client's larger business goals and tailor work and information flow to that.
- Have a point of view and be able to articulate and defend it convincingly.
## Qualifications
- Bachelor's or higher degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Active CPA mandatory.
- MBA from a top-30 university a plus.
- Prior experience in Big Four accounting, or a highly reputable private company (at least 2 years) a plus.
- In depth knowledge of accounting theory and application of U.S. GAAP.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
- Experience with working in a complex ERP system.
- Excellent communication skills; proven ability to communicate effectively with internal and external business partners at various levels in a clear and concise manner.
- Team player with a strong work ethic.
- Quickbooks / Netsuite experience a plus but not required.
- Tech savvy and MS Excel super user (candidate must be comfortable working with and analyzing large datasets).
- Comfortable when challenged with difficult, unstructured problems that must be solved quickly.
- Experience working with and presenting to a Board of Directors for a client, or presenting to a similar level of leadership a plus.
- Experience in multi-client, consulting environment.
