Role Summary/Purpose:
The Vice President, Software Engineering will operate as a true team orchestrator, leading the charge around planning and executing key technical deliverables for our Software Engineering teams. You will ensure that the Engineering Team is properly positioned to deliver key work through the facilitation of sprint planning, work and project assignments, and capacity and productivity planning. This position also plays a key role in developing talent and driving effective internal collaboration.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead small teams of software engineers: Oversee their day-to-day activities and ensure projects are progressing as planned.
• Assist with project planning and estimation: Work with senior managers and product owners to estimate timelines, resources, and milestones.
• Assign tasks and responsibilities: Distribute work among team members based on their strengths, experience, and career development goals.
• Ensure timely delivery: Monitor the progress of development tasks, help to remove blockers, and keep the team on schedule.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams: Collaborate with product, design, and QA teams to align engineering efforts with overall project goals.
• Act as a liaison: Serve as a communication bridge between the engineering team and senior management, providing updates and progress reports on current work, as well as general feedback from the team.
• Manage workload: Balance the team’s workload to avoid burnout while maximizing productivity.
• Monitor individual and team performance in conjunction with technical team leads: Track progress toward goals and provide constructive feedback.
• Conduct performance evaluations: Participate in periodic performance reviews to assess team members’ work and identify areas for improvement.
• Maintain documentation: Ensure proper documentation of processes, technical decisions, and codebases for team reference.
• Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned
Qualifications/Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent field experience.
• 7+ years of increasing leadership in the Software/Technology space, ideally as a Director/VP of Engineering.
• Proven success with driving strategic technology development and modernization to meet evolving business needs.
• Strong experience coordinating and facilitating sprint planning and story pointing processes.
• Proven ability to understand the scope of a project, develop a cohesive plan to attack the situation, and put teams in place to efficiently accomplish the project.
• Strong coaching and mentoring skills, coupled with the desire to understand what drives & motivates each team member to get the most out of them.
• Strong communication skills, helping to drive connection and communication between internal & external teams, and technical and non-tech stakeholders.
• Possess a natural curiosity to understand the “what” and “why” behind how things are done.
• Ability and flexibility to travel for business as required
Grade/Level: 13
The salary range for this position is 155,000.00 - 260,000.00 USD Annual and is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance.
Actual compensation offered within the posted salary range will be based upon work experience, skill level or knowledge.
Salaries are adjusted according to market in CA, NY Metro and Seattle.

We’re proud to offer you flexibility. At Synchrony, our way of working allows you to have the option to work from home near one of our Hubs or come into one of our offices. You will be required to commute to your nearest Hub (either virtual or physical) for in-person engagement activities such as regular business or team meetings, training and culture events.

Eligibility Requirements:
• You must be 18 years or older
• You must have a high school diploma or equivalent
• You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process
• New hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles. Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months’ time in position before they can post for future non-exempt roles. Employees, level 8 or greater, must have at least 18 months’ time in position before they can post. All internal employees must consistently meet performance expectations and have approval from your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR if you don’t meet the time in position or performance expectations).
