Sr Support Engineer 1 - SQL DBA, OnPrem and Azure SQL, Performance Tuning, Troubleshooting
Scope:
• The SQL Server Database Administrator will be responsible for managing and optimizing enterprise-scale SQL Server environments, with a strong focus on Azure SQL Database.
• The role encompasses end-to-end database administration, including design, security, performance optimization, and support of large-scale production workloads in the cloud.
• The candidate will play a key role in strategic planning and architectural decision-making while driving automation, modernization, and compliance initiatives.
• Additionally, this role involves providing leadership, mentoring, and guidance to the DBA team to establish and maintain best practices across hybrid database platforms.

• Monitoring & Troubleshooting (Advanced): Adept at setting up monitoring systems and resolving database issues efficiently.
What you’ll do:
• Design, and implementation of SQL Server environments (on-premises and Azure Cloud).
• Design and implement scalable and cost-optimized Azure SQL Database solutions, including elastic pools and serverless models.
• Own and enforce database governance, standards, and best practices across the organization.
• Perform capacity planning, performance tuning, and cost optimization for Azure SQL workloads.
• Lead and oversee HA/DR implementations (Always On, Clustering, Log Shipping, Replication, cloud-based DR).
• Define and implement database security, auditing, and compliance. • Provide expert-level performance tuning and query optimization for mission-critical systems.
• Lead migration projects from on-prem SQL Server to Azure SQL Database (PaaS).
• Automate complex administrative and monitoring tasks using T-SQL, PowerShell, or DevOps pipelines.
• Manage backup/restore strategies and disaster recovery drills for enterprise databases.
• Collaborate with architects, application teams, and infrastructure leaders to align database solutions with business needs.
• Mentor, coach, and provide technical guidance to mid-level and junior DBAs.
• Act as the primary escalation point for critical production incidents.
• Stay ahead of industry trends and recommend emerging technologies for continuous improvement.
What we are looking for:
• Bachelor’s degree in IT/Computer Science/Electronics (preferred) or equivalent diploma.
• 5 - 10 years of progressive experience as a SQL Server DBA in enterprise environments including OnPrem and Azure SQL.
• Deep expertise in SQL Server 2012/2014/2016/2017/2019/2022 administration and strong knowledge of Azure SQL Database features: DTU/vCore models, Elastic Pools, Serverless, Hyperscale. • Experience with Azure SQL HA/DR options (Geo-Replication, Failover Groups).
• Proven experience with large-scale database environments (VLDBs, high concurrency systems).
• Proficiency in monitoring, alerting, and troubleshooting using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Query Store.
• Advanced knowledge of HA/DR architectures and performance tuning at scale.
• Proven problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a focus on driving results and delivering high quality software solutions.
• Troubleshooting – Performance and other issues. Ensure high levels of performance, availability, sustainability and security.
