## Description We are looking for an Assistant Property Controller to support the accounting and financial reporting activities for a sizeable residential real estate portfolio in New York, New York. This role is ideal for a hands-on accounting specialist who can manage the monthly close cycle, maintain strong financial controls, and coordinate effectively with shared service resources. The position also works closely with property management, asset management, and development teams to deliver accurate reporting and help drive key financial initiatives. ## Responsibilities - Lead the month-end close process for a large portfolio of residential properties, ensuring timely and accurate completion of journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting deliverables. - Review general ledger activity and investigate variances to maintain accurate financial records across multiple properties. - Prepare and analyze financial statements and supporting schedules for portfolio-level and property-level reporting needs. - Provide oversight and direction to offshore accounting support resources to ensure quality, consistency, and adherence to deadlines. - Partner with asset management, property management, and development teams to address financial issues, operational questions, and reporting requests. - Assist with audit preparation by organizing documentation, responding to inquiries, and supporting the completion of financial statement audits. - Contribute as an individual contributor without direct reports while managing a high volume of accounting responsibilities independently. - Support special projects and process-related initiatives tied to portfolio accounting operations as needed. ## Requirements - At least 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in residential real estate or property management environments. - Background supporting large property portfolios, ideally involving more than 5,000 residential units. - Proficiency with Yardi property management software. - Strong knowledge of month-end close procedures, general ledger accounting, and financial reporting. - Experience assisting with financial statement audits and preparing audit support materials. - Familiarity with residential real estate accounting, including affordable housing exposure. - Ability to work independently while coordinating effectively with internal stakeholders and offshore support teams. ## Nice to Have - None specified. ## Benefits Robert Half is the world’s first and largest specialized talent solutions firm that connects highly qualified job seekers to opportunities at great companies.
