Two Research Technician Port Economics
Role Overview
The Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) invites applications for two Research Technician (TCP4, MECES 2) positions within the research line “Port Economics.” The positions are associated with the research project: “Port Industry Challenges: The Strategic Relationship Between Africa and Canary Islands (PORAFRICAN)” (Project reference: PROID2025010026). The project is funded by the Canary Islands Agency for Research, Innovation and Information Society (ACIISI), Government of the Canary Islands, and has an execution period until 30 September 2027. The contracts are permanent, financed until the project end date. The successful candidates will join the Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism, Department of Applied Economic Analysis, ULPGC.
Responsibilities
The selected candidates will carry out research support activities including:
- Collection and systematization of research data.
- Development of theoretical frameworks and methodological approaches.
- Design and implementation of empirical analyses.
- Interpretation of research results and preparation of conclusions and policy implications.
- Participation in the scientific and technical development of the following research lines:
L01: Port Context
L02: Digital Switchover of the Port System
L04: Analysis of Port Productivity and Efficiency
L05: Port Competition and EU Regulation Analysis
- Collaboration with the corresponding work package leaders and project researchers to ensure methodological and scientific consistency.
- Participation in daily administrative tasks and preparation of funding proposals.
- Contribution to scientific dissemination activities and preparation of research publications.
Requirements and Qualifications
Applicants must hold one of the following qualifications:
- Degree in Economics
- Degree in Business Administration (ADE)
- Degree in Data Science or equivalent disciplines related to economics and engineering
- Degree in Law or related legal disciplines
Education Level: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent (MECES 2)
Research Field: Port Economics / Business Administration / Data Science / Law
Selection Process and Eligibility Criteria
Candidates will be evaluated on a maximum score of 100 points:
- Research and/or Professional Experience (40 points): Evaluation will consider suitability of professional or internship experience to the profile of the position, especially in maritime-port economics, efficiency and productivity analysis, competition and regulation studies, and participation in regional, national and international conferences, seminars or forums.
- Academic Training (40 points): Evaluation will consider academic record in complementary studies related to economics, including completed or ongoing Bachelor’s, Double Degree or Master’s programmes (minimum 50% completed), specialized complementary training, and official foreign language qualifications.
- Personal Interview (20 points): A personal interview will be conducted to assess candidate suitability.
Required documentation includes: Identity document (DNI, Passport, NIE or equivalent), required academic qualification certificates, Curriculum Vitae, and supporting documentation for all merits and requirements claimed in the application. Only merits properly documented before the application deadline will be evaluated.
