Research Platforms Engineer

## Responsibilities - Maintaining and improving the research platforms to ensure they are performing as expected. - Investigating and resolving issues and errors on the platforms. - Ensuring the platforms are always secure by applying patches and updates for operating systems and systems software. - Automating routine tasks with Infrastructure-as-code tools such as Puppet or CloudFormation to make them easier and safer. - Working within the IT Services team to support the Research and Innovation Product teams. - Learning skills and practices to progress in the role and take on more responsibilities. - Potentially leading into a career in Digital Research Infrastructure and involvement in building the next national supercomputer or AI cluster. ## Requirements - Deep understanding of computing equipment like storage (e.g. Lustre), networking (e.g. Infiniband), GPUs (e.g. NVidia H100s), operating systems (e.g. Linux) and systems software (e.g. Slurm, Docker, K8s). - Entry-level role with a keen learner attitude. - Experience with similar technologies using a homelab setup or on the cloud is a plus. ## Nice to Have - Experience with Infrastructure-as-code tools such as Puppet or CloudFormation. - Interest in learning skills and practices to progress in the role. ## Benefits - £38,784 to £47,389 with potential to progress to £51,753.00. - Part of an inclusive, motivated and supportive team of technical and domain experts. - Opportunity to work on world-changing research at the University of Sheffield.
