Embedded Robotics SDE, Compass
Salary: $143,700 - 194,400 per year
Requirements:
We require 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience. We require 2+ years of non-internship experience in design or architecture for new and existing systems, including design patterns, reliability, and scaling. We require 3+ years of experience developing C++ software for embedded or real-time systems. We require experience with safety-critical or high-reliability software development processes. We require experience translating research or prototype code into production-quality software. We require experience with object-oriented programming. We prefer 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations. We prefer a bachelors degree in computer science or an equivalent background.
Responsibilities:
We own a library of safety-critical embedded software modules and are accountable for their quality, maintainability, and readiness for certification. We translate algorithm work from our core development team into production-grade embedded software that can be formally certified. We define and communicate software requirements and constraints upstream so R&D aligns with certification goals. We drive the software through the full safety certification process, preparing the code, documentation, and supporting evidence needed for approval. We develop and sustain embedded software in line with safety-critical coding standards such as MISRA C++ and AUTOSAR, as well as deterministic real-time best practices. We collaborate with safety engineers, lab engineers, and testing/quality engineers to maintain end-to-end traceability from safety requirements to implementation and certification evidence.

More:
We are Amazon Robotics, and our Compass team is building a library of safety-critical software modules that will form the certified safety foundation for our robotics fleet. We work with the inventors of control barrier functions on a scalable approach to safe autonomy across mobile robots, manipulators, mobile manipulators, and future platforms with dynamic stability. Our work blends safety with motion planning, reinforcement learning, and foundation models so safety does not limit robot performance. We offer comprehensive benefits, including medical, dental, and vision coverage, maternity and parental leave, paid time off, a 401(k) plan, and additional Amazon benefits such as health insurance options, 401(k) matching, and parental leave. The role is based in Pasadena, California, with an annual base salary range of USD 143,700 to 194,400, plus sign-on payments and RSUs.
