Software Development Manager, Foundation Team
Salary: $184,900 - 250,200 per year
Requirements:
3+ years of experience managing engineering teams 7+ years of engineering experience 8+ years leading the design and development of multi-tier web services 3+ years of experience as a Software Engineer, Software Developer, or in a related role 1+ years providing technical leadership and project management across the full software development lifecycle 1+ years building large-scale, multi-tier distributed systems with Java, C#, or C++ 1+ years building large-scale, multi-tier distributed systems using service-oriented architecture 1+ years building large-scale, multi-tier distributed systems using distributed programming Bachelors degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline Strong understanding of engineering practices and patterns across the full software, hardware, and networking development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, certification, and live site operations Experience working closely with product or program management teams Experience communicating with users, technical partners, and senior leaders to gather requirements, describe product features, explain technical designs, and shape product strategy Experience recruiting, hiring, mentoring, coaching, and leading Software Engineers Experience building and leading teams Experience applying AI or automation to reduce operational effort or improve reliability Background in developer tooling, document platforms, or collaboration software Experience leading a large-scale system migration or user base transition
Responsibilities:
Build and establish the Foundation Team from the ground up, including hiring, developing, and setting the culture and technical standards Own Tier 1 reliability for Pippin at scale, including SLA management, incident response, and platform stability for hundreds of thousands of daily users Lead the Quip migration by managing the staged transition of users to Pippin and preserving continuity for builders across Amazon Drive platform evolution by owning the roadmap for reliability enhancements, document store architecture, and the core editing and collaboration experience Experiment with AI-native operations by automating workflows, speeding up incident resolution, and exploring how AI can transform production support Partner with the Lab Team to share on-call coverage, coordinate on shared platform capabilities, and advance Pippins AI-native mission
