Role Overview

The RF Power Project Development team is responsible for the development and delivery of next generation future products within the RF Power division portfolio. Although this is a multi-disciplined team, this role focuses on the development of vacuum tubes, primarily magnetrons, TWT’s, and associated structures.

Working closely with lead engineers, designers, test engineers and project manager’s, plan and organise the product deliverables by drawing on your extensive experience in an engineering role covering prototyping, NPI (new product introduction), DFM (designed for manufacture) and production / verification testing.

Main Accountabilities

This role would suit a development engineer with experience of electro-mechanical structures and high-power RF.

• Design and develop components and systems following vacuum tube manufacturing principles.
• Perform detailed analysis and simulations to optimise RF power performance.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with design, manufacturing, and test teams to ensure product reliability.
• Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for system issues.
• Support prototype development, testing, and validation processes.
• Prepare technical documentation, including design reports and maintenance manuals.

Experience and Qualifications

• Degree in Electromechanical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
• Understanding of vacuum tube technologies and RF power systems.
• Proficiency in CAD software for mechanical design.
• Experience with stress and thermal management.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication abilities for technical reporting and team collaboration.
• Competent with electro-mechanical assembly.

Desirable Attributes:

• Knowledge of manufacturing processes related to vacuum tube production.
• Knowledge of magnetron and travelling wave tube operation.
• A working knowledge of RF (radio frequency) principles.
• Experience of complete product life cycle design, encompassing original development from concept through to final design and customer handover.
• Competent in the use of AutoCAD as a design / capture tool.
