Responsibilities
Perform preliminary screening examinations including visual acuity, extraocular motility, confrontation visual fields, pupil examination, refractometry, and tonometry. Examine the cornea, lens, and anterior chamber using a slit lamp. Operate diagnostic equipment for visual fields, corneal topography, wavefront analysis, OCT, pachymetry, biometry, and IOL measurement. Sterilize and set up instruments for ophthalmic surgical procedures and assist with minor office surgery and laser treatments. Clean and stock consultation and surgery rooms. Prepare appointment charts, direct patient flow, and act as a scribe for physicians. Administer diagnostic eye drops and perform specific tests like Schirmer's tear testing and Ishihara color testing.
