Responsibilities
Obtain and record patient histories including medical history and allergies; Measure visual acuity on adults, children, illiterate patients, and infants; Perform tonometry to measure intraocular pressure; Conduct refractometry using retinoscopy and manifest techniques; Perform extraocular muscle testing to identify imbalances; Conduct color vision screening and diagnostic testing; Assess pupillary function and describe abnormalities; Conduct confrontation visual fields; Measure oculoplastics parameters such as ptosis and proptosis; Evaluate neuro-ophthalmology patients for eye movements and corneal sensitivity; Administer ocular preparations and instill therapeutic agents; Initiate and instruct patients in occlusive therapy and visual training; Assist in the education and training of residents, medical students, and technical personnel.
