Why is this role important?
CBC’s Web Platform team builds, manages, and maintains the platform and code libraries that facilitate the publication of hundreds of articles of daily content stemming from national and local news and entertainment creators to millions of Canadians.
The team is responsible for the engine that powers cbc.ca, accessed daily by millions of Canadians and global citizens around the world. This ever-evolving platform is built to be versatile, reusable and scalable, and it provides an access point for our diverse and varied content in a standardized way.
We are looking for a strong frontend developer with knowledge of supporting web platforms to help us build, optimize, and create new features for our web offerings on cbc.ca. It is a role that works closely with product, technical, design, and other team members both internally and across other teams. This is a chance to take on the unique challenges the sheer volume of our web traffic presents; a chance to use new and continuously changing technologies. How you will make an impact:
• You will be working on a team that creates user-facing products and powers the platform that enables CBC’s News, Sports, and Olympics experiences, among others, to provide our audiences amazing experiences.
• You will be working with other software developers, product leaders, and UX designers to ensure that our products meet the needs of all Canadians, including those with accessibility challenges.
• You will be supporting technical leaders to keep up-to-date on the latest developments in technology, assuring that our products remain modern, scalable, and performant.
• You will be collaborating with other teams to ensure that the entire stack of products, including UI/UX, content management, and data analytics, all function smoothly together.
• You’ll provide input and feedback on technical decisions, taking ownership when it needs to happen.

If it sounds like this is a role you are ready for, you probably:
• Have working experience and expertise in javascript and with React or other front end frameworks
• You stay up to date on the latest web architectural patterns and components.
• Have a degree or diploma in a Software Development, Engineering, or other related discipline, or have acquired your skills through experience and other means.
• You have an understanding of application flow from the data layer to the UI, and experience integrating API endpoints.
• Are have an understanding of modern testing processes including unit testing, other automation, and testing pipelines.
• You’re a strong communicator and you know how to listen and relay empathy and understanding for diverse perspectives.
• Are comfortable working with remote team members.
This position will not be filled until consideration has been made by the CBC/Radio-Canada / APS Workforce Adjustment Committee.
