Job Overview
The steel industry is undergoing a major transition toward more sustainable, resource-efficient, and low-emission production. Digitalization and advanced process technologies are becoming increasingly important for improving efficiency, product quality, and environmental performance across modern steelmaking operations. This project will investigate how data-driven methods and digital technologies can support the optimization of steelmaking processes. The research combines metallurgical knowledge with approaches in data analysis, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and process optimization to improve process understanding, operational performance, resource efficiency, and sustainability. The project will be carried out in close collaboration with European industrial partners and research institutions. It includes interdisciplinary research, industrial cooperation, and international collaboration, with opportunities for research exchanges and work connected to industrial applications.

Supervision: Björn Glaser is proposed to supervise the doctoral student. Decisions are made on admission.

Responsibilities
As a doctoral student, you will conduct research in Engineering materials science, focusing on digital metallurgy. You are expected to:
- Independently pursue your work.
- Collaborate with others.
- Maintain a professional approach.
- Analyze and work with complex issues.
- Perform certain tasks within your role, such as training and administration, to a limited extent (maximum 20% of time).

Requirements and Qualifications
Admission Requirements:
To be admitted to postgraduate education, the applicant must have basic eligibility in accordance with either of the following:
- Passed a second cycle degree (for example a master's degree).
- Completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 second-cycle higher education credits.
- Acquired, in some other way within or outside the country, substantially equivalent knowledge.

Specific Academic Requirements:
- Master's degree in materials science or metallurgy.
- Mandatory requirement for English equivalent to English B/6.

Specific Skills and Knowledge:
- Knowledge of material science and metallurgy.

Employment Terms:
- The total length of employment may not be longer than what corresponds to full-time doctoral education in four years' time.
- For studies completed with a licentiate degree, the total period of employment may not be longer than what corresponds to full-time doctoral education for two years.
- A new position as a doctoral student is for a maximum of one year, and then the employment may be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time.
- Only those admitted to postgraduate education may be employed as a doctoral student.
