Role Overview:
This recruitment procedure is intended to give effect to a court judgment and opens an international call for applications for the recruitment of one Assistant Professor in the subject area of Comparative Studies. The position is aimed at holders of a doctoral degree with high research potential and capability who wish to enter the university teaching career at the entry level. The successful candidate will carry out teaching and research duties assigned to an Assistant Professor.
Responsibilities:
- Carry out teaching duties, including developing teaching programmes for course modules such as "The Study of Literature" or "The Study of Cultures" and another module from the Bachelor’s degree in Comparative Studies curriculum.
- Conduct research in the field of Comparative Studies, demonstrating scientific rigour, international dissemination, and contribution to the advancement of knowledge.
- Lead competitive research projects funded over the last five years.
- Submit and implement a scientific and pedagogical project.
- Ensure proficiency in Portuguese upon appointment.
Requirements and Qualifications:
Academic Qualifications:
- Hold a PhD in Comparative Studies, or a PhD whose thesis topic falls within this academic field.
- Holders of academic degrees awarded by foreign higher education institutions must have their doctoral degree recognised in accordance with Decree-Law No. 66/2018 by the date of expiry of the period granted for the conclusion of the contract.
Absolute Merit Criteria (Must meet all):
- Possession of a comprehensive curriculum vitae covering the last 5 years (2021–2025) demonstrating scientific merit and research capacity compatible with the subject area.
- Authorship of at least 5 articles published in Q1-indexed journals in Scopus/SCimago or ISI-Web of Science, relevant to the subject area, published in the last 5 years (2021–2025). Works in press or accepted for publication by the closing date are excluded.
- Authorship of a monograph relevant to the subject area, published within the last 5 years (2021–2025) by publishers with a high standard of international excellence, with mandatory scientific quality assessment and control procedures, and wide international circulation. Works in press or accepted for publication by the closing date are excluded.
- Submission of a scientific and pedagogical project (12,000 to 20,000 words) including descriptions of teaching programmes for two course modules, indicating contextual parameters, theoretical framework, methodology, and up-to-date bibliography.
Assessment Parameters (Relative Merit):
- Curriculum assessment (70% weight), focusing on:
- Scientific Performance (45%)
- Teaching Ability (15%)
- Other activities relevant to the mission of the higher education institution (10%)
- Leadership of competitive research projects funded over the last 5 years.
- Merit of the scientific-pedagogical project (30% weight).
