LEAD MECHANICAL ENGINEER, MEP (TEXAS CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS)

As lead mechanical engineer, MEP, on the Texas Construction Projects team, you will provide technical leadership and direction to engineers across multiple disciplines in the design, construction, and activation of critical infrastructure that enables SpaceX to achieve its long-term mission. You will own the successful delivery of large capital projects for internal customer groups across the company, drive technical decisions, mentor team members, and ensure projects meet performance, schedule, and quality objectives. This position is based in McGregor, TX (Waco area). Travel may be required, and based on business needs, opportunities to support other SpaceX facilities may arise in the future.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide technical leadership and direction to the project team, consulting engineers, and contractors throughout the full lifecycle of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning for large capital projects

Direct the development and issuance of engineering drawings, design documentation, and technical reports for aerospace, industrial, and commercial infrastructure projects

Lead the preparation, negotiation, and management of construction contracts with subcontractors across multiple disciplines, from initial award through final close-out

Drive the real-time resolution of complex design and construction conflicts in the field, ensuring minimal impact to schedule and cost

Lead coordination efforts with electrical utility providers on design and engineering activities to ensure reliable and resilient power delivery to critical site infrastructure

Serve as the primary technical interface with engineers, contractors, fabricators, and key project stakeholders, fostering alignment and driving successful project outcomes

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or other engineering discipline

2+ years of professional experience with the design or build of MEP building systems

1+ years of leadership experience leading teams, projects, or people

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Primary experience with electrical and power distribution systems (<600Vac)

Knowledge of HVAC operation and design principles including refrigeration, chillers, boilers, and air-handling equipment

Experience with plumbing design and operation including domestic water, wastewater, venting, and storm systems

Working knowledge of delta/wye transformers, building lighting, building construction specifications, and facility grounding

Experience with critical power infrastructure including UPS systems, backup generators, and automatic transfer switches

Experience creating and implementing process/design solutions with minimal impact to business operations

Able to quickly assess an issue and assist technicians with troubleshooting and repair

Ability to work in a high-concentration, high-stress environment, under possible extended work hours and tight deadlines

Acute attention to detail, ability to see interactions with other systems to avoid problems

AutoCAD/Revit – Beginner to intermediate skill level

Familiarity with National Electric Code, ASHRAE, National Fire Protection Association, and International Building Code

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Role may require extended hours, weekend work and shift schedules, that vary depending on site operational needs; flexibility required

This role requires you to be onsite - remote or hybrid work will NOT be considered

Perform hands-on work in all environments (heat, cold, rain), in tight quarters or at heights

Remain focused while working in hazardous environments while wearing appropriate PPE

Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs unassisted

Must be able to travel to other SpaceX sites as needed (up to 25%)
