Role Overview

This is an exciting 3-year postdoctoral position that gives you the opportunity to develop a strong profile as a researcher. You will also gain valuable teaching experience relevant for your further career. Mandatory department duties, primarily related to teaching, are part of the appointment. The position aims to strengthen the group’s research and teaching activities and to maintain and further develop the Norwegian academic environment within process-system technology. Your immediate leader will be the Head of Department.

Responsibilities
Conduct research in optimization, with a focus on one or more of the following areas:
- Process Systems Engineering
- Non-smooth systems
- Artificial intelligence for process systems
- Engineering Biosystems

Additional duties include:
- Teaching and supervision of students at Bachelor’s or Master’s level in Norwegian and/or English language, as required by the department.
- Participate and contribute to the development of the research group and its strong global position within process-system technology.
- Write academic publications.
- Apply for research funding and write applications and report on progress to funding sources.
- Participate in international activities such as conferences and/or research stays at foreign educational institutions.

Requirements and Qualifications
Required selection criteria:
- Strong motivation to teach in process systems engineering courses as well as general chemical engineering courses.
- Documented experience with teaching or teaching assistance in large courses.
- A strong academic background in process systems engineering and mathematics.
- You must have completed a doctoral degree in process-system technology, chemical process engineering, applied mathematics, or a corresponding field. If you are in the final phase of your doctorate and can document that the thesis has been submitted or that the defense date has been confirmed, your application can be considered even if you have not defended. NOTE: Documentation of the obtained doctorate must be presented before you can take up the position.
- Documented ability to conduct high quality scientific work.
- Good oral and written presentation skills in English.

Preferred selection criteria:
- Oral and written presentation skills in Norwegian/Scandinavian.
- Experience in organizing teaching in Norwegian/Scandinavian language.
- Knowledge about the Chemical Engineering program at NTNU.
- International experience.

Salary and Conditions
As a Postdoctoral Fellow (code 1352) you are normally paid from gross NOK 633 400,- per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund. The period of employment is 3 years. This includes career promotion work/ teaching duties.
