Member of Technical Staff
About the Role
We are a small, ambitious deep-tech company (11–50 people) at the intersection of AI and robotics engineering, tackling foundational technical problems that most teams don't even attempt. Our work spans custom database and memory systems, real-time LLM infrastructure, human-AI operating system design, and UX grounded in organizational psychology — all in service of pushing the frontier of what AI can do.
We're looking for a Member of Technical Staff who is obsessed with hard, novel, and often overlooked problems, and who can build large, complex, maintainable systems at a pace that surprises even senior engineers. This is a full-time, on-site role in the South Park neighbourhood of San Francisco. Visa sponsorship is available.
What You'll Do
• Identify and solve hard technical problems that lack existing solutions, advancing the state of the art in AI.
• Design and build custom database and memory systems tailored for advanced AI applications.
• Implement real-time LLM token state management at large scale.
• Develop custom Unix OS distributions optimised for human–AI interaction.
• Rethink UX paradigms through the lens of organisational behaviour and human psychology.
• Own projects end-to-end — from architecture to deployment — with a strong bias toward compounding micro-optimisations.
What We're Looking For
Required:
• A genuine obsession with novel, technically difficult, or overlooked problems.
• Demonstrated ability to build large, complex, and maintainable systems in roughly one-third the time most competent engineers think is possible.
• Hands-on experience with at least one of: TypeScript, Rust, Python, graph databases, or flexible data pipelines.
• Outlier intelligence and/or outstanding real-world experience (top academic background or equivalent signal welcome).
Nice to have:
• Familiarity with graph databases, ontological modelling, and flexible data pipeline design.
• Comfort applying insights from psychology and organisational behaviour to product and UX decisions.
• Interest in mechanistic interpretability or AI model internals.
• Experience in distributed systems, AI infrastructure, or systems-level programming.
We welcome candidates from non-traditional backgrounds. What matters most is the quality of your thinking and what you've built.
Compensation & Benefits
• Cash compensation: $200,000 – $400,000 per year
• Equity: Variable equity package on top of cash
• Visa sponsorship available
