Full job description

Mission Brief 

You will be an integral part of the Avionics department, specifically the Harness & Structures team, that designs the complete Launch Vehicle harness, together with the in-house developed Avionics units and necessary enclosures. Doing so in close collaboration with the Avionics production and machining teams, as well as all relevant stakeholders from other departments.

You will be the product owner of mechanical design for several of our in-house developed Avionics units, both for the current and next generation of our Launcher. You will own the lifecycle of it, manage associated interfaces and ensure delivery on time, budget and scope. Interdisciplinary tasks and fast paced R&D are your daily business, and you thrive in that kind of environment.

Your Role in Our Space Mission 

Carry out the mechanical design of Avionics Units. Aligning constantly with stakeholders such as the electrical designers as well as the interfacing system responsibles

Own the design and configuration of Avionics Units

Track relevant requirements and their verification. As well as developing overarching design rules relevant to the team or company-wide standards

Track design changes and adapt accordingly following the company processes

Collaborate with stakeholders (structures, propulsion, sensor, actuator teams) to align interfaces and requirements

Execute harness routing for our current and next generation Launcher. Planning, modeling, and documenting harness paths, including bundling, clamping, and routing in 3D environments

Generate support documentation for production, such as assembly instructions, harness drawings, work instructions, etc.

Design test fixtures, jigs and other assemblies to support development and testing

Identify and implement constant improvements to our processes to streamline operations and reduce costs together with potential errors

Interpret system-level diagrams and topologies

Support integration, testing and production activities, ensuring manufacturability and installation feasibility

Qualification Checklist 

BSc/MSc in Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, or related field

Extensive experience in mechanical design, development and documentation from concept to production

Proficiency in CAD software, such as SolidWorks, CATIA, Siemens NX

Extensive experience in production of metallic components and DFMA best practices

Experience in 3D harness design and routing, including bundling, clamping, and path definition

Strong understanding of fields affecting unit design such as Materials, Thermal, FEM analysis, etc.

Ability to interpret system-level diagrams and wiring schematics

Experience with testing methods for design validation such as vibration and shock

Effective communication and teamwork skills for cross-disciplinary collaboration

Fluency in English, both written and spoken

Bonus Skills

Familiarity with aerospace standards and practices for unit qualification and acceptance

Familiarity with aerospace harnessing standards and practices

Knowledge of harness manufacturability, installation, and maintenance considerations

Experience in CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA, Siemens NX) harnessing modules

Hands-on experience in harness assembly
