The Role: Product Manager - Search
Location: London office / Hybrid (2 days per week in the office)
Reporting to: Senior Product Manager
The Role:
We are on a mission to give everyone the belief that they can make their move. Home movers across the UK spend more than a billion minutes on Rightmove each month and our website and apps receive over 140 million visits per month. Joining the Search Team in Rightmove, you’ll make this mission possible by giving consumers confidence to make their move through best-in-class property search capabilities.
This team looks after our flagship consumer experience, Search, and forms a fundamental part of why consumers love our brand. We want to keep building on these fundamentals and also make sure that we move with consumer behaviour in property search by being on the forefront of innovation. The Product Development team at Rightmove plays a pivotal role in delivering the overall consumer and customer digital experience underpinning the Rightmove business. We recognise that to deliver the best products and features for our customers and consumers we need to work together effectively as a healthy, high performing team. We work collaboratively across a mix of product and centralised teams, together working towards Rightmove’s strategy. The Product Manager role reports into a Senior Product Manager in our Consumer Domain, responsible for our Explore & Find pillars. This is a key role managing our core proposition, search, which is central to the business. The successful individual will need to be comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy.
A Typical Week as a Product Manager Might Involve :
Own and monitor the products and functionality across the search experience, measured against the objectives and KPIs you define
Create and validate business cases that underpin the product/initiative, with clear definition of opportunity, costs, and benefit
Proactively contribute to initiatives that aim to improve our customer or consumer experience, both identifying your own contribution and supporting others in theirs
Initiate and/or undertake any analysis to highlight any impacts to systems or business processes
Take an active role in the experience discovery of initiatives and products, working closely with Product Designers and Researchers to define the approach
Collaborate with user experience specialists and visual designers to re-work existing experiences, as well as creating new ones
Spend time understanding what motivates our users and ensuring they are up to date with industry insights
Generate unique ideas, resourceful in identifying opportunities, and encourages innovation within the team
Works with engineers and technical architects to understand technology limitations, recommendations and development options
Accountable for requirements definition and delivery of solutions across your product/initiatives
Maintain a backlog of improvements for your area, clearly describing how they support our overall business goals and work with the Senior Product Manager & Head of Product to prioritise these alongside the wider priorities for the domain and product function
Handle inbound requests coming to this central product area by triaging and responding to stakeholders in a timely manner.
Build relationships across different domains and functions of the business to identify impactful opportunities that span more than the Search product.
Work with Senior Product Manager & the Head of Product to help shape the strategic direction, vision and objectives for Search based on clear rational, analysis and insights
We are looking for someone who:
Can lead product discovery, culminating in clear recommendations and, where relevant, the best approaches for delivery
Operate with autonomy and influence, effectively managing relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and alignment on goals
Has experience in the successful end-to-end delivery of software products in a technology-led company.
Takes responsibility for a product and its delivery and monitoring with an autonomous delivery team
Makes data informed decisions, leveraging quantitative and qualitative insights
Is passionate about delivering quality experience and software to end users
Has excellent organisational and prioritisation skills with the ability to multitask and make tough calls
Effectively manages relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring clear communication, alignment on product goals, and collaboration throughout the product lifecycle
Sets and measures clear, realistic and timely goals
Has experience with a Search product at scale or another consumer-facing product at a similar scale to Rightmove
Builds a deep understanding of how an organisation is run, both commercially and operationally
Actively encourages contributions from all those around them recognising the value of team members input when solving problems
Thinks long term, and will drive the vision for the product their team is working on
Has found the agile philosophy to be second nature
Comfortable describing the technical implementation of their product
Has a desire to learn and improve themselves and the processes within the team
Is equally comfortable negotiating the roadmap with product leaders, presenting to senior leadership, or discussing implementation with our engineers.
Is keen to use Al to facilitate product processes
Has an awareness of how Al could shape search and consumer features in future.
