General Summary
GENERAL SUMMARY:
This role will join the Qualcomm IT Operations Management and Analytics (ITOMA) team that is responsible for managing the global Splunk and Cribl infrastructure.
This is a strategic position, and you will provide technology leadership in support of the data pipelining strategy. The role will be responsible for designing and implementing modern data pipelines that enable efficient ingestion, transformation, routing, and governance of telemetry (logs, metrics, and events) across multiple platforms such as Splunk, Datadog, and emerging data platforms (e.g., ADX, Sentinel). Emphasis will be placed on optimizing data flow, reducing cost through intelligent routing/filtering, and enforcing enterprise data governance standards.
The Responsibilities Of This Role Include
Frequently transports between offices, buildings, and campuses up to ½ mile.
Frequently transports and installs equipment up to 5 lbs.
Performs required tasks at various heights (e.g., standing or sitting).
Monitors and utilizes computers and test equipment for more than 6 hours a day.
Continuous communication which includes the comprehension of information with colleagues, customers, and vendors both in person and remotely.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong experience with Cribl (Stream/Edge) or similar observability/data pipeline technologies
Experience designing and operating large-scale data pipelines for logs, metrics, and events
Experience with log routing, filtering, enrichment, and cost optimization strategies
Familiarity with OpenTelemetry, data streaming, or event-driven architecture
UNIX/Linux experience
Python/Perl script development experience
GIT/GitHub experience
Minimum Qualifications
5+ years of IT-related work experience without a Bachelor’s degree.

The Responsibilities Of This Role Include

- Programs data pipelines and system integrations; optimizes and maintains distributed data flows, including sources, transforms, routes, and destinations, to support scalable and flexible log and metric processing.
- Design, implement, and maintain enterprise-scale data pipelines using technologies such as Cribl, Splunk forwarders, and observability pipeline frameworks to ingest, transform, filter, and route telemetry data.
- Define and enforce data routing strategies across multiple platforms (e.g., Splunk, Datadog, ADX, Sentinel), ensuring the right data is delivered to the right system based on use case, cost, and retention requirements
- Optimize ingestion pipelines to reduce unnecessary data volume through filtering, sampling, aggregation, and transformation, driving cost efficiency without compromising observability or security needs.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex data ingestion and pipeline issues across distributed systems, including forwarders, collectors, and pipeline infrastructure.
- Collaborate with application teams and platform owners to onboard new data sources, ensuring alignment with enterprise logging standards, schema expectations, and governance policies.
- Establish and maintain standards for telemetry data pipelines, including naming conventions, tagging (CMDB/service mapping), data classification, and lifecycle management.
- Evaluate and implement new pipeline technologies (e.g., OpenTelemetry, vectorized pipelines, cloud-native ingestion services) as part of the broader observability and data platform strategy.
- Improves data quality and participates in data governance and reliability activities; develops and maintains data catalog; implements data enrichment, data cleansing, and data quality improvements.
- Designs optimal data models, builds and manages summarized datasets, leads performance tuning activities, and designs and develops data APIs.
- Performs intermediate level statistical analysis; implements machine learning pipelines in production.
- Analyzes data to discover tasks that can be automated; identifies process improvements; implements automation; develops prototypes and proofs of concept for the selected solutions.
- Serves as a technical lead on a feature or system and works on advanced technical tasks to complete a project.
- Discusses technical issues with project lead to address challenges and resolve problems.
- Writes clear and detailed technical documentation for complex or difficult projects.
