## About the Role DecisionNext is hiring a Computational Scientist to lead the evolution of DecisionNext's distributed modeling platform. The computation target is large scale machine learning, AI, structural econometric, and simulation models for commodity industries. You will work with core algorithms to implement new or refactor existing models to increase accuracy and throughput and decrease communication barriers. Risk and scenario planning through simulation is a central focus. The system is implemented with a micro-services architecture in AWS. Understanding the performance limitations of algorithms, storage strategies, and technologies is the core of the role. ## Key Responsibilities - Study the application flow from data to models to simulations to display. - Understand and communicate the benefits of different modeling approaches, where the metric is value delivered to DecisionNext customers. - Identify opportunities for LLMs and AI to solve problems and offer new solutions. - Diagnose performance bottlenecks. - Design algorithmic and HPC infrastructure solutions. - Implement solutions in Python/Rust code base. - Maintain code and manage projects in a professional manner. - Participate in code review practices to foster a collaborative development process. - Advise and mentor science and software engineering staff. ## Who You Are - PhD in a quantitative field (Computational Physics or Finance, Informatics, Engineering, Computer Science, etc.). Master's with experience will be considered. - Beneficial areas of expertise: - HPC and distributed computing frameworks; - Probability, simulation, algorithms, and numerical linear algebra; - Time series and econometric models; - Agents, LLMs, and AI training. - Ability to learn quickly and master multiple fields. - Excellent communication and technical writing skills, with the ability to convey complex topics clearly. - Unbounded curiosity. - Passion for delivering value to customers. - Excited to wear multiple hats in a small organization and contribute where needed. - Willing to understand and evolve current practice, not just tear it down and rebuild. ## About the Company DecisionNext's proprietary SaaS technology combines sophisticated AI with expert human judgment to significantly outperform traditional approaches to commodity transaction decision-making. This scenario-based system, already integrated in the decision-making process at numerous large customers, is delivered as SaaS software with an intuitive user experience. It combines econometric models, LLMs, Monte Carlo simulation, optimization techniques and extensive automated back-testing in a single application. DecisionNext is in a steep growth phase now in the food, agriculture, and natural resources industries, and is hiring additional staff to meet new demand. ## Job Details - Job Type: Full-time - Job Location: Remote - Reports to: Chief Science Officer
