## About the role Visual Alpha is building the vertical AI platform for financial data workflows. We automate how financial institutions process, validate, and report data — replacing manual, error-prone workflows with AI-driven systems. Our platform handles both unstructured documents and structured data, delivering production-grade outputs across private assets, accounting, and reporting. Already trusted by leading financial institutions in Japan, we're scaling rapidly to become the category leader in vertical AI for finance, in Japan and globally. ## Opportunity - Join a fast-growing B2B vertical AI startup transforming productivity across the financial industry - Join a diverse international team of data science and financial industry experts - Play a critical role in building a category-defining company in a large, underserved market ## Role - Independently design and develop full-stack cloud service for enterprise clients - Build and maintain complex business logic modules and scalable data models - Collaborate closely with the client support team to ensure stable day-to-day operations - Ensure code quality through robust unit and integration testing - Potentially lead and mentor a small team (2–3 members, including interns) - Typical time allocation: ~20% design, ~80% implementation ## Required Skills - Strong learning mindset with the ability to become a domain expert in financial data system - Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to independently handle complex technical challenges - High ownership, self-motivated, and able to quickly learn new technologies - Strong system design, communication, and collaboration skills - Solid experience in one or more of: C++, Python, PHP, or Rust; willingness to work with or learn Node.js - Business Level Japanese (N2+) and business level English (conversation in work) ## Preferred/High-Impact Experience - Knowledge of accounting, investment management and financial data workflows - Strong quantitative or mathematical programming skills - Familiarity with software design patterns and scalable architecture - Experience building web services and AI-driven systems ## Technologies Node.js, React, PHP (Laravel), Python, SQL, GraphQL, REST APIs, AWS, CircleCI, Git, xUnit ## A Day in the Life We work in fast-paced 1–2 week sprints, with a strong emphasis on ownership and end-to-end delivery. - Start the day by reviewing priorities, messages, and sprint tasks - Focus on coding, problem-solving, and feature development with a high degree of autonomy - Collaborate with teammates for design discussions, code reviews, and technical problem-solving - Submit well-structured pull requests with clear documentation of changes - Participate in design and planning discussions for upcoming features and longer-term projects - Work flexibly, with a focus on efficiency and quality over rigid hours *(Note that we are looking for candidate currently in Japan or who can return to Japan within 8 weeks only. )*
