## About the Role We're looking for an early-career engineer to join our Reliability Engineering team, where you'll own the quality and operational health of Helios — our cloud-native email and workspace security platform. This isn't a siloed QA role. You'll be embedded in a full-stack product environment, writing automated tests, building and hardening CI/CD pipelines, and doing real SRE work on AWS infrastructure that processes email threats, quarantine events, and compliance signals for multi-tenant enterprise customers. You'll work across a FastAPI backend, Next.js frontend, PostgreSQL data layer, and M365/Google Workspace integration surfaces. If something breaks in production, you're part of the team that fixes it and makes sure it doesn't break again. ## What You'll Work On ### SRE & Infrastructure - Own operational reliability across ECS Fargate, RDS, ElastiCache (Redis), CloudFront, ALB, SQS, S3, and SES - Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines in GitHub Actions and AWS CodeBuild, replacing manual ECS deploy flows with fully automated, gate-checked release pipelines - Monitor, triage, and resolve production incidents — Redis hygiene, cache invalidation, load balancer configuration, and deployment health - Contribute to security hardening efforts: JWT secret management, credential vaulting, and cross-tenant data access auditing ### Quality Engineering - Build and maintain a robust automated test suite — unit, integration, and end-to-end — covering FastAPI endpoints, async background workers, and Next.js UI surfaces - Write tests for complex integration surfaces including M365 Graph API delta sync, Google Workspace DWD flows, OAuth token refresh, and physical quarantine moves - Validate multi-tenant data isolation at the PostgreSQL layer — row-level security, migration integrity, and query correctness across org boundaries - Own test coverage for billing flows (Stripe subscriptions, usage metering, webhooks) and SIEM export connectors (Microsoft Sentinel, Splunk) ### Platform Coverage - Backend surfaces: threats, quarantine, policies, compliance, message trace, people, admin, and onboarding - Frontend: threat feed, quarantine UI, compliance dashboard, admin portal, reporting, and real-time event panels - Email authentication validation: SPF, DKIM, DMARC parsing and transport mechanics ## What We're Looking For - 0–1 years of professional software engineering experience; strong internship or project experience welcomed - Solid Python fundamentals with interest in async patterns, FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, and Pydantic - Comfortable in TypeScript/React — able to read and write Next.js App Router code well enough to test it - Working knowledge of AWS (ECS Fargate, RDS, ElastiCache, S3, SQS, SES, CloudFront, ACM) - Familiarity with CI/CD concepts; hands-on GitHub Actions experience is a plus - Exposure to PostgreSQL — schema design, indexing basics, and understanding of multi-tenant data patterns - Some experience or coursework touching email authentication (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) or API integrations (M365 Graph, Google Workspace) is a bonus, not a requirement - Strong debugging instincts and a bias toward instrumenting systems rather than guessing
