Our proprietary Visible platform combines AI-powered analytics with human expertise to decode culture, human behavior, and brand meaning to answer big growth questions for our clients. ## About the role We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and scale the systems that power Visible, a proprietary cultural intelligence platform. This role combines hands-on software development, system architecture, workflow orchestration, platform engineering, and technical leadership to improve scalability, reliability, and developer productivity. You will be joining a small team of 3 engineers, supporting a UK-based consulting team of about 30. ## Responsibilities - Design, develop, and maintain scalable, resilient, and high-performance distributed systems and services. - Develop frameworks and services for task scheduling, execution management, resource allocation, monitoring, and fault recovery. - Evaluate existing architectures and drive adoption of industry-standard design patterns, engineering best practices, and cloud-native technologies. - Refactor and re-architect systems to reduce technical debt and improve system reliability and extensibility. - Design and implement automation solutions for infrastructure provisioning, deployments, and operational workflows. - Drive architecture decisions related to scalability, observability, security, performance, and system reliability. - Lead troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and resolution of complex production issues. - Establish engineering standards for code quality, testing, documentation, deployment, and operational excellence. ## Requirements - 6–7+ years building and maintaining production backend systems. - Strong software engineering experience building backend systems and distributed applications. - Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines. - Proficiency in Python. - Deep understanding of distributed systems, concurrency, networking, and system design principles. - Strong experience with cloud platforms (AWS) and infrastructure automation. - Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes. - Strong understanding of API design, microservices, event-driven architectures, and system integration patterns. - Experience modernizing legacy systems and driving architectural transformation initiatives. - Familiarity with observability, monitoring, logging, and incident management practices. - Excellent problem-solving, communication, and technical leadership skills. ## Nice to have - Familiarity with orchestration frameworks (Airflow, MLFlow). - Experience with large-scale data processing, machine learning platforms, or AI/agentic workflow systems. ## What we offer - Full-time role (UK hours). - Remote/flexible. - Base salary: £28,000-£34,000, depending on experience. - Additional generous quarterly performance-related bonus (up to 30%). ## Role Impact This role is responsible for evolving the organization's core systems and orchestration capabilities by delivering scalable platform solutions, modernizing legacy architectures, reducing technical debt, and driving adoption of industry-standard engineering practices that improve both system reliability and developer efficiency.
