## About the role
As a Senior Full-Stack Engineer, you'll play a key role in building the next generation of tools and features that power our platform. You'll work across the stack using TypeScript, Next.js, Apollo GraphQL, and PostgreSQL, delivering functionality that supports fans, artists, and internal teams.
Our platform regularly handles rapid traffic spikes during live events, scaling from zero to tens of thousands of users in seconds. You'll take ownership of features from concept to production, contributing to system design, scalability, and reliability, and helping shape how the platform performs under real-world load.
This is a great opportunity to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment where your code directly shapes the experience of thousands of users.
## Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate features end-to-end, from concept through to production, monitoring, and iteration
- Architect and implement scalable, resilient systems capable of handling high-traffic, event-driven spikes
- Contribute to system architecture across the stack, including API design, data modelling, and infrastructure decisions
- Collaborate closely with product, design, and engineering to shape solutions and iterate on new functionality
- Write (or prompt) clean, maintainable, and well-tested code, with a strong focus on performance and reliability
- Improve backend performance, API efficiency, and overall system stability
- Enhance observability across services, including logging, monitoring, and alerting
- Support production systems by diagnosing issues, resolving incidents, and continuously improving reliability
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes to enable fast, safe, and repeatable releases
- Drive the adoption of AI-assisted engineering practices across the team, including integrating tools into day-to-day workflows (e.g. coding, testing, debugging), establishing best practices, and ensuring their effective and responsible use in production environments
- Lead code reviews, share knowledge, and help raise engineering standards across the team
- Mentor other engineers and support their technical growth and development
## Core Experience
- Proven experience delivering production web applications, owning features from concept through to deployment
- Strong full-stack experience with Node, TypeScript, Next.js, and Apollo GraphQL
- Comfortable designing and working with GraphQL APIs across both client and server
- Solid backend experience with PostgreSQL and relational data modelling
- Hands-on experience with AWS (e.g. ECS/Fargate, RDS/Aurora, S3)
- Experience with infrastructure as code (e.g. Terraform)
- Good understanding of system design, scalability, and performance trade-offs
- Experience working in modern CI/CD environments
- Strong problem-solving skills, with a focus on performance, reliability, and maintainability
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Strong ability to leverage modern development tools and practices (including AI-assisted development), with a clear understanding of their trade-offs, risks, and limitations
- Proactive in evaluating and adopting new tools, frameworks, and approaches to improve team productivity and product quality
- Comfortable driving the adoption of AI-powered engineering practices and enabling others to use them effectively
## Nice to Have
- Experience working in a high-demand, live event or fast-moving environment.
- Experience working in small, high-ownership product teams
- Experience handling high-concurrency or real-time systems
- Knowledge of performance testing and simulating high-traffic scenarios.
- Experience with the latest versions of Next.js including app router and server components.
- Experience building LLM-powered or agentic experiences using the OpenAI API (or similar), from prompt design through to production-ready integration.
## What's it like working at Planet?
We're a remote-first small but high performing team that values communication and collaboration in how we work
Our development team is fully remote but based in the UK, with a virtual stand-up each day.
We embrace modern tooling and a product-focused way of working
We support the use of modern tooling, including AI-assisted development tools (e.g. Cursor, Claude), to help engineers work more efficiently.
We don't follow a traditional agile process. Instead, we work in Shape Up–inspired cycles, where engineers take ownership of problems, shape solutions, and drive features from concept through to production. You'll collaborate closely with product and commercial teams, taking a product engineering approach that balances user needs, technical decisions, and business impact.
We are big on collaboration
We've put structured processes in place to help career progression, inclu
