## About the role We are looking for a Database Engineer to own the data layer at Lens. Every IQS score we produce must be reproducible and auditable — that starts with a clean, performant, well-governed database architecture. You will design schemas, manage migrations, optimize queries, and ensure data integrity across all Lens systems. ## Responsibilities - Design and maintain SQL schemas for article metadata, IQS scoring results, user data, and institutional accounts - Build and manage database migrations across development, staging, and production environments - Write and optimize complex queries for reporting, analytics, and API response performance - Implement content hashing and cache-keying strategies to ensure IQS score reproducibility - Own backup, replication, and disaster recovery procedures - Collaborate with backend engineers on ORM patterns and query performance - Build internal data dashboards and reporting pipelines for editorial and operational use ## Requirements - 3+ years of professional database engineering experience - Deep proficiency in SQL (PostgreSQL strongly preferred; SQLite experience a plus) - Experience with schema design, normalization, and indexing strategies - Familiarity with migration tools (Drizzle, Prisma, Flyway, or equivalent) - Understanding of data integrity constraints, transactions, and ACID properties - Experience with query performance profiling and optimization ## Nice to have - Experience with vector databases (pgvector, Pinecone, Weaviate) - Familiarity with time-series data patterns for scoring history and audit trails - Experience with analytics databases or data warehouses (BigQuery, Redshift) ## Tech Stack - PostgreSQL - SQLite - Drizzle ORM / Prisma - Node.js / TypeScript
