Backend engineer

## About the role We're looking for a Backend Engineer to help build the systems behind our MCA automation platform. You'll work on APIs, underwriting workflows, bank statement processing, funder matching, data models, and the backend services that help brokers move files from submission to funding faster. This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who likes building reliable systems, working close to product problems, and shipping features that directly affect how customers process real deal volume. ## What you'll work on - Build and maintain backend services using Kotlin, Spring Boot, and the JVM stack. - Design APIs used by the web platform, integrations, and internal workflows. - Work with MongoDB data models for deals, applications, statements, users, teams, and matching results. - Improve automation around underwriting, bank statement parsing, and funder matching. - Build reliable job processing, validation, audit trails, and reporting workflows. - Collaborate with frontend and product to turn messy finance workflows into clean software. - Help improve performance, observability, testing, and reliability as usage grows. ## What we're looking for - Strong backend experience with Kotlin, Java, or another JVM language. - Experience with Spring Boot or similar backend frameworks. - Comfortable designing REST APIs and working with database-backed applications. - Experience with MongoDB or document databases is a plus. - You care about clean data models, reliability, and practical architecture. - You can work independently, communicate clearly, and ship without needing every detail handed to you. - You're comfortable working in a small team where priorities can move quickly. ## Nice to have - Experience with fintech, lending, underwriting, payments, or financial data. - Experience building workflow automation, document processing, or matching/scoring systems. - Experience with background jobs, queues, event-driven systems, or integrations. - Familiarity with Docker, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, or observability tools. ## Why this role matters MCA brokers lose time every day to manual application review, bank statement analysis, and figuring out which funders fit each deal. Your work will help automate those workflows so teams can process more submissions, make better decisions, and close more fundable deals. ## How we work We're headquartered in Atlanta, GA, and work remote-first.
