Lead Developer Marketing — VideoDB
Rewrite
## About the role
VideoDB is the modern backend for AI agents that see, understand, and act on video. Think Supabase, but for the agentic web's video layer — universal ingestion, scene-level indexing, retrieval that returns playable outputs, and streaming, all behind a clean API.
We're looking for someone who has scaled dev-first marketing before — not a generalist hoping to try devrel, but an operator who's done this and wants to do it again, sharper, on a category that's still being named.
The role
You'll own how developers find us, try us, and tell their friends about us. Narrative, content, community, launches, programs — end to end. You'll work directly with the founder (me) and our engineering team to ship campaigns that move usage, not impressions.
This is a builder seat. The category — video as data infrastructure for AI agents — is ours to define. Most of the playbook is yet to be written.
## What you'll do
- Own positioning and narrative across docs, site, social, and launches. We've been refining the "modern backend for AI agents" thesis — you'll sharpen it and carry it everywhere.
- Build a content engine that compounds — technical posts, demos, tutorials, case studies, threads. Quality over volume, but a steady drumbeat.
- Run launches that punch above our weight — Hacker News, Product Hunt, conference moments, podcast circuits, X threads that actually get read.
- Grow our developer community across San Francisco, Bangalore, Delhi, and Mumbai. We already run events in all four — you'll turn that into a flywheel.
- Partner with engineering on sample apps, SDK examples, and live demos that show rather than tell. Our best marketing has always been a working agent.
- Build relationships with builders, OSS maintainers, and the AI agent framework communities (MCP, LangGraph, CrewAI, AutoGen, and whatever launches next month).
- Measure what matters — signups → first API call → meaningful usage → advocacy. Every campaign tied to a number.
## You probably have
- 5+ years marketing developer tools, infra, or APIs — bonus if at an early-stage infra company you'd build at again.
- Shipped at least one product story that broke through in the developer community. You can point to the post, the launch, the moment.
- Written technical content yourself. We'll read your stuff.
- Run launches that turned into pipeline — and can show the receipts.
- Strong intuition for the AI/agent ecosystem: retrieval, evals, MCP, agent frameworks, multimodal models. You don't need to be an engineer, but you should be able to read a docs page and know if it's good.
- Comfort moving between founders, engineers, and customers in roughly equal measure.
## Bonus
- You've built a developer community from scratch.
- You've shipped side projects or contributed to open source.
- You can record a video walkthrough without it feeling cringe.
- You have opinions about why most dev marketing is bad, and you've fixed it before.
## Why VideoDB
- Timing. Video is the next data layer for AI agents — and we're early. The agentic web is being built right now; we're the visual perception and action layer.
- Team. Founder-led, engineering-heavy, marketing respected as craft, not decoration.
- Traction. Real customers, real usage, real revenue. We'll share specifics in the loop.
- Comp. Competitive cash + meaningful early-stage equity.
- Setup. Hybrid. SF or India hubs preferred. We travel often, by design.
## How to apply
Send me — Ashutosh, founder/CEO — a short note. Skip the resume-first approach. Tell me:
- A dev-first marketing campaign you ran that you're proud of, and what actually worked.
- What you'd ship in your first 30 days at VideoDB.
- One thing you think we're getting wrong from the outside.
Short and direct beats long and polished. We'll move fast.
