## About Invene
Invene is a boutique consultancy that helps payers, providers, and HealthTech companies create transformational software. Our entirely U.S. development based team is highly specialized, focusing only on healthcare projects. This allows us to securely handle PHI and create differentiated IP that clients own. Since our founding, we have been a remote-first company and intend to stay that way.
## About the Role
This is a contract role, not full-time employment. We are a services firm which means you will work on a variety of projects. As such, you will use a variety of tools and platforms depending on our active projects. We're building out our vetted contractor pipeline — data engineers we can rely on and pull in as needed. This is the interview and vetting process to get on that list.
## What we're looking for
Junior to mid-level data engineers with at least 1 year of professional experience who actually know how to work with AI coding tools — Claude Code, Codex, or similar. If you're not using these in your day-to-day workflow, this probably isn't the right fit.
## Required
- Authorized to work in the US without sponsorship (now or in the future)
- US-based, with all work performed on-shore in compliance with HIPAA and client data handling requirements
- Comfortable appearing on camera representing Invene as someone who is client facing
- 1+ year of data engineering experience
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric
- Proficiency with PySpark
- Strong SQL skills
- Experience with data modeling (dimensional modeling, medallion architecture, star/snowflake schemas)
- Experience building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines
- Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development (Claude Code, Codex, etc.)
- Ability to write logic from scratch and reason through problems clearly
## Nice to Have
- Databricks experience
- Power BI experience
- Delta Lake / Lakehouse architecture
- Azure ecosystem (Data Factory, Synapse, ADLS)
- Git / version control for data pipelines
- Healthcare data experience (HL7, FHIR, claims data, 837/835)
- Health tech background
## The Technical Interview
We're not looking for perfection. We're looking for how you think, how you reason through tradeoffs, and whether you can articulate a better solution even when you can't fully execute it under pressure.
## Behavioral Skills
- Able to create simple, well-reasoned presentations
- Able to articulate technical ideas in conversation with non-technical stakeholders
- Present well on-camera, inspiring confidence in our clients
- Respectfully navigate change request conversations with shifting deadlines and priorities
