## About the role
### Who We Are
KixCare is Canada's leading virtual pediatric care platform, connecting families with on-demand mental and physical health support for kids and teens, 24/7. We were founded by a team of physicians who saw firsthand how broken access to pediatric care was, and decided to fix it.
We've validated the model, have served more than 30,000 children, and have enterprise partners including some of Canada's most recognized employers, insurance companies, and financial institutions. Now we're ready to own our technology. You'll lead our transition from third-party systems to a modern, scalable proprietary platform.
### Why This Role Exists
We need someone to architect and build our custom care delivery platform from the ground up. This isn't a task-taking role. You'll set the technical direction, make the foundational decisions, and own the roadmap end-to-end. You'll work shoulder-to-shoulder with our CEO, clinical and operations teams to ship something that genuinely improves how families access care.
## What You'll Own
### Platform Architecture and Delivery
- Design and build the KixCare platform from scratch - patient-facing web and mobile experiences, clinician tools, backend services, and the infrastructure that holds it all together
- Ship end-to-end features: UI → APIs → data → deployment
- Integrate with EMR systems, scheduling tools, payment processors, and medical devices
- Architect for the requirements that matter in healthcare: security, privacy (PIPEDA), reliability, and scale
### Clinical and Care Workflows
- Translate clinical requirements into products that make life easier for families and providers - scheduling, secure messaging, video, patient records
- Work closely with our team to build tools that reflect how care actually works
### Technical Foundation
- Establish the engineering practices, tooling, and standards that the team you'll eventually hire will build on
- Own CI/CD pipelines, observability, and uptime
- Make thoughtful, long-term decisions about stack, architecture, and build vs. buy
## What We're Looking For
### Experience
- 3+ years building and shipping production full-stack applications
- Hands-on experience in healthcare, telemedicine, or another regulated industry - you understand what it means to handle sensitive data responsibly
- Comfortable deploying to and operating cloud infrastructure
### Mindset
- You identify as a builder first - you're most energized when you're making something, not managing it
- You're drawn to early-stage environments where the problem is clear but the solution isn't yet
- You care about the end user - the families and clinicians using what you build
## Nice to Have
- Experience with real-time systems: chat, video, or device integrations
- Interest in growing into a technical leadership role as we scale
## Building with AI
Healthcare is one of the most promising domains for AI. We're not interested in bolting on a chatbot. We're thinking about how AI can meaningfully improve clinical workflows: smarter triage, automated documentation, decision support that helps our clinicians work at the top of their license.
We want someone who is genuinely curious about this space and comfortable working with AI tools and APIs. Familiarity with LLMs, agentic workflows, and the practical constraints of applying AI in a clinical context is a real differentiator for this role.
## Compensation and Equity
We're building something that will reshape access to pediatric care in Canada, and we want you to own a piece of it. We offer:
- Competitive salary (CAD$170,000+)
- Equity (0.5-2%) - we believe the people who build it should share in what it becomes
- Benefits package
- Fully remote (Canada) with the opportunity to work hybrid from Toronto
## What Success Looks Like
In your first 30 days, you'll have a deep understanding of our clinical workflows, our current tech stack, and the architectural decisions ahead. You'll have a clear plan for what we build first. In your first three months, you'll have built the platform foundation we'll scale on, earned the trust of our clinical team, and made technical decisions we'll be proud of in three years.
