## About the role Chronicle is building a platform that powers creator discovery, audience intelligence, and automated acquisition workflows. We are looking for a Senior Backend and Platform Engineer to take ownership of the backend platform so that reliability, security governance, and ingestion scale are not bottlenecked on executive bandwidth. This is a high-impact role for an engineer who enjoys building production-grade systems, operating them, and designing the technical foundations that product teams can move quickly on without compromising security or uptime. ## What you will own You will own the backend and the data ingestion engine as an end-to-end platform. That includes defining service boundaries, setting standards for reliability and observability, and implementing the security and governance model that enables partner and public access. You will be accountable for keeping the ingestion and API layer healthy and predictable, while building the primitives and interfaces that power the product roadmap. ## Responsibilities - You will take primary ownership of the backend services and the data-ingestion engine, including uptime, performance, and incident response readiness. - You will design and implement authentication and authorization patterns suitable for an external-facing product, including OAuth flows and RBAC with clear governance boundaries. - You will ensure ingestion pipelines are idempotent, debuggable, and resilient, with strong operational instrumentation and safe retry behavior. - You will deliver stable, well-documented APIs and data contracts that power Terminal UI, campaign performance syncing, and downstream model and analytics workflows. - You will lead the CloudSQL implementation and establish best practices for schema management, query performance, backups, and operational safety. - You will build and maintain production observability, including logs, metrics, tracing, alerting, and runbooks, with a bias toward preventing incidents rather than reacting to them. - You will partner closely with the frontend, ops, and AI teams to unblock roadmap delivery while maintaining platform integrity and minimizing operational risk. ## Required Qualifications - Strong backend engineering experience building and operating production systems, with demonstrated systems design judgment. - Advanced Python proficiency, including building services, data pipelines, and operational tooling. - Experience with cloud-native architecture, ideally on GCP, including patterns such as Cloud Run and Pub/Sub. - Strong relational database fundamentals, including PostgreSQL, schema design, performance tuning, and operational best practices. Experience with CloudSQL is a plus. - Practical experience implementing authentication and authorization patterns, including RBAC and OAuth or similar flows. - Strong understanding of reliability engineering concepts, including idempotency, retries, backpressure, observability, and incident response. - Ability to work independently, take ownership, and communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders. ## Preferred qualifications - Experience with TypeScript and Node in backend or integration services. - Experience building ingestion pipelines that integrate with 3rd-party APIs and data providers, including safe rate limiting and failure handling. - Experience designing multi-tenant SaaS backends with feature gating and tiered access models. - Familiarity with data warehousing patterns and analytics workloads that influence API and storage design.
