## About the role Full Stack Developer (AI-Driven Automation) – Insurance Engagement: Contract (initial 6 months, when all goes well, we extend to permanent) Work setup: Remote (Must be available for calls in Berlin 9:00-18:00) Start: ASAP Commitment: Full-time is required ## Project Overview We're building AI-driven automation for complex insurance workflows, from early prototypes to production-ready systems. Over the next ~10 months, we'll validate core technology and scale it toward a standalone spin-out company. We're looking for a senior freelance Full Stack Developer who combines strong technical execution with deep business understanding. You'll work directly with our Senior AI CTO and engineering leadership in a highly autonomous environment. In today's world of Cursor, Claude, and AI-assisted coding, raw syntax knowledge is no longer the differentiator. The most important skill we evaluate is your ability to: - Quickly understand what the business actually needs - Reason about how customers think and behave - Translate vague, high-level goals into clear technical requirements and shipped systems ## How We Think About This Role We can test technical skills relatively easily and we will, to verify your claimed background. However, the majority of our hiring decisions are based on: - Business understanding - Ability to work with very little direction - Ownership mindset and personal working attitude The key question we ask ourselves is: Is this someone we can give a high-level business problem to and trust that one month later there's a working prototype, and three months later it's something we can put in front of real customers? If that framing excites you, this project is likely a good fit. ## What You'll Be Working On - Turning loosely defined business problems into concrete technical solutions - Designing and building backend and full-stack services using TypeScript, Node.js, and Next.js - Creating AI-powered workflow automation using frameworks like Mastra, LangChain, or similar - Integrating and experimenting with leading LLMs (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini) and routing platforms such as OpenRouter - Building observability and evaluation into AI systems (LangSmith, Langfuse, LangWatch, or custom tooling) - Deploying and maintaining cloud infrastructure on AWS and/or GCP - Working with serverless architectures (e.g. AWS Lambda) - Managing infrastructure via infrastructure-as-code (CloudFormation; Terraform a plus) - Setting up and improving CI/CD pipelines - Prototyping quickly, shipping iteratively, and refining based on real customer and stakeholder feedback - Collaborating directly with the CTO on architecture, AI strategy, and long-term technical direction - Developing a working understanding of insurance workflows and translating domain complexity into scalable systems ## What We're Looking For - Strong experience with TypeScript, Node.js, and modern web/backend frameworks - Hands-on experience with Next.js, serverless systems, and cloud-native development - Experience with AI orchestration frameworks (LangChain, Mastra, or equivalents) - Practical experience working with modern LLMs and multi-model setups - Solid knowledge of AWS and/or Google Cloud Platform - Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, and deployment workflows Equally important (and what we care most about): - Proven ability to understand business context quickly - Comfort working from ambiguous, high-level requirements - Strong product and customer intuition — you think in terms of users, workflows, and outcomes - Ability to turn minimal direction into: - clear technical plans - fast prototypes - production-ready systems - High ownership and reliability in a remote, async-first setup - Comfortable using AI tools daily as part of your development and thinking process - Clear, structured communication in English (German is a HUGE plus, all the test data is in German)
