## About the role
We're seeking a Staff-Level API/Microservices Engineer who combines technical excellence with strong leadership instincts. In this role, you'll lead the design and development of scalable APIs and microservices powering custom AI systems, websites, and applications. You'll have the autonomy to shape technical architecture while collaborating with a small, elite team to push boundaries on a daily basis.
Experience in LLM (Large Language Model) integrations, agentic workflows, or conversational AI is a significant plus — many of our upcoming projects involve cutting-edge work in these areas.
## Key Responsibilities
- Architect, build, and maintain scalable APIs and microservices to support web, app, and AI product development.
- Design integration layers for LLM-powered systems, agentic workflows, and conversational interfaces.
- Lead the technical execution of projects — defining structure, best practices, and roadmap for API and backend services.
- Collaborate with engineers, data scientists, and AI researchers to bring complex, AI-driven applications to life.
- Drive quality across codebases: implement best practices around performance, security, and reliability.
- Act as a technical mentor within the team, helping to level up others while continuing to challenge yourself.
- Balance hands-on coding with high-level architectural decisions.
## Required Qualifications
- Extensive experience (5+ years) designing and building APIs and microservices in production environments.
- Expertise with languages such as Python, Node.js, or Java, and backend frameworks like FastAPI, Flask, or Express.
- Strong background with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and containerization tools (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Deep understanding of API security, performance optimization, and scalable systems design.
- Familiarity with RESTful standards; GraphQL knowledge is a plus.
- Proven ability to work independently, self-manage priorities, and deliver high-quality results without heavy supervision.
- Strong critical thinking and debugging skills — you solve problems from first principles, not by memorizing recipes.
## Bonus Points For
- Hands-on experience building or integrating with LLMs, chatbots, or autonomous agents.
- Knowledge of vector databases, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines, or prompt orchestration frameworks.
