## About the Company
Reys is an AI-native platform for private markets investing. It is the wedge to a much larger business.
The product is live with active users and committed capital. The founder ran investments at a family office for years, knows the workflow firsthand, and has deep direct relationships across the ecosystem. What's needed now is a technical counterpart.
## About the Role
You are replacing an external development shop. You will inherit a working product, take ownership of the codebase, and become the engineering foundation as the company raises capital and builds out a small team around you. You decide the stack, the patterns, the infrastructure, the build-vs-buy tradeoffs. No one is handing down architecture decisions.
This is also a forward-deployed role. You'll join customer calls. You'll see how investment firms actually work — how deals get sourced, evaluated, killed, or written. You'll build what those firms need, not what a spec says.
## The Challenge
Investment firms run on trust. The systems you build will handle highly sensitive financial data, support decisions worth millions, and need to answer "where did this number come from?" on demand. SOC 2, audit trails, deterministic behavior on top of probabilistic models, evals as a first-class development practice.
## What You'll Build
- AI architecture: agent design, retrieval, context engineering, tool integration, model routing
- An agent-first API surface — every action exposed as an atomic, idempotent endpoint so humans and agents call the same primitives
- Data systems that capture and structure proprietary signal as customers use the product
- Integrations and ingestion pipelines for the messy, unstructured inputs financial workflows actually run on
- Trust infrastructure: data isolation, explainability, compliance posture
- Evaluation infrastructure that measures and proves output quality on every change
- Backend services that orchestrate external work alongside automated workflows
## What We're Looking For
- Someone who has shipped real products — not features inside a large organization. Things with users, with production incidents, with decisions you made and lived with.
- Someone with strong opinions about how to build. You know when agents make sense vs. deterministic pipelines. You have a point of view and you'll defend it — including against the founder.
- Someone who builds with AI. You're using modern AI coding tools fluently in your own workflow. You ideally have your own OpenClaw or fleet of agents running your life. We expect a small team to ship at the pace of a much larger one, and that only works if everyone here is operating that way.
- Comfort with ambiguity. We're early. Requirements change after every customer call. You ship fast, learn from what breaks, and iterate without waiting for perfect specs.
- Domain curiosity. You don't need a finance background, but you should be excited about learning how institutional capital actually flows.
- Independence. Take a problem, break it down, build it, ship it. You don't need to be managed — you need to be pointed in a direction.
- We don't care about credentials. Show us what you've built.
## Why Reys
- Real traction. Active users, committed capital, customers asking for more.
- Founder-market fit and distribution. The founder ran investments at a family office and has direct relationships across the buyer base. He knows the workflow, the language, the buyers, and what they'll pay for. You're building for a market the founding team can already reach.
- Founding equity and ownership. You're compensated as a founding team member, and you'll have real influence over technical and product direction.
This role will start as a contract position to build out our relationship.
