Software Engineer, Ruby on Rails

## About the role Mudflap serves the $800B trucking industry, the backbone of the U.S. economy. Our market-leading payment products help truckers save thousands of dollars on fuel (their #1 business expense), while providing our fuel stop partners with access to new, hard-to-reach customers. We're a fast-growing marketplace business looking for a new exceptional junior engineer to join our transactions and payments team. ## Work Location This can be a fully remote position. While we operate across multiple time zones, most collaboration happens during Pacific Time working hours. Candidates should be able to work a schedule aligned with the PT time zone. ## Expectations (In this role, you will) - Build features for our transactions and payments systems using Ruby on Rails - Implement APIs and endpoints following established patterns and guidance - Write clean, well-tested and maintainable code with attention to edge cases - Debug and fix issues within your area of responsibility - Collaborate in code reviews to improve your skills and learn best practices - Document your work to support knowledge sharing - Take ownership of small to medium features from implementation to deployment - Learn our domain-specific knowledge in payments and transaction processing - Be flexible and adapt to the changing needs of a startup environment ## Experience (What we look for) - 1-2 years of professional software development experience - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent - Familiarity with Ruby on Rails or similar web frameworks - Ability to work with SQL databases, including writing queries with joins and understanding indexes - Knowledge of Git version control workflows - Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail - Eagerness to learn and grow as a software engineer - Good communication skills and team collaboration abilities - Interest in financial technology and payment systems is a plus ## Our Stack - Backend/API -- Ruby on Rails - Database -- Postgres / AWS Aurora - Web -- Vue.js and REST - iOS -- Native (Swift) - Android -- Native (Kotlin) - Hosted on -- AWS, deployed as containers on ECS - CI/CD -- CircleCI pipeline ## Perks and Benefits (What we offer) - Competitive salary and equity in a high-growth startup - Multiple health benefit options - Responsible Time Off - 401(k) matching - Opportunities and support for major career growth - Annual Company offsite event (Mudfest!) ## Company overview (Who we are) Mudflap is on a mission to transform the trucking and logistics industry by leveling the playing field for owner operators and small fleets.
