We are seeking two Senior Bioinformatics Engineers to develop cutting-edge genomic analysis tools and infrastructure. This role requires expertise in cloud technologies, large-scale genomic data processing, and software development. ## Responsibilities - Design, build, and maintain scalable pipelines for processing and analyzing clinical‑grade 30x whole‑genome data, while supporting a wide range of genomic data types at consumer scale. - Optimize performance, reliability, and cost of data processing pipelines across AWS and hybrid environments, with a focus on high throughput and predictable latency for end users. - Develop production-quality services and tools using Python, C#, SQL, and AWS (e.g., Lambda, Glue, Batch, S3, RDS) that power Sequencing's DNA apps and reports. - Collaborate across product, science, engineering and UX teams to translate scientific findings into clear, consumer‑friendly genetic insights that are easy to navigate. - Establish and adhere to best practices for software engineering, data versioning, testing, observability, and documentation across bioinformatics workflows. ## Requirements - 5+ years of experience in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, or a related field. - Strong hands-on experience working with real-world genomic datasets and file formats such as VCF, BAM, and FASTQ. - Solid understanding of genomic databases, standards, and annotation resources. - Proficiency in Python, SQL, and C#, with a track record of writing clean, maintainable code. - Experience designing and implementing bioinformatics pipelines and data processing systems in production. - Experience building scalable, reliable systems on cloud platforms (e.g., AWS), including use of managed services. - Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes). - Excellent problem-solving skills and a systematic approach to debugging complex data and infrastructure issues. - Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to high-quality, validated output. - Demonstrated experience operating and improving production systems where correctness and reliability are critical. - Ability to effectively leverage AI tools to increase productivity, code quality, and testing depth. - Fluency in English, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders. ## Nice to have - Location: Remote: This position is not open to candidates residing in New York City. ## What we offer - Proudly named GenomeWeb's Best Place to Work in 2024, Sequencing is venture-backed and scaling rapidly to meet surging demand in the fast-growing personal genomics market. - We're a fully remote, global team of innovators, scientists, and builders, united by a mission to make genomics accessible, actionable, and life-changing for everyone. ## About the company Sequencing is powering the future of personalized health.
