## About the Role SciLifeLab is a national center for molecular biosciences with a focus on research in health and environment. The center combines leading technical expertise with advanced knowledge in translational medicine and molecular biosciences. SciLifeLab is a national resource driven by Karolinska Institutet, KTH, Stockholm University, and Uppsala University. The center collaborates with several other universities. SciLifeLab and the Wallenberg National Program for Data-Driven Life Science (DDLS) is a 12-year initiative focusing on data-driven research, aiming to educate and recruit the next generation of life scientists and create strong, globally competitive competence in computational science and data science for Swedish life sciences. The program aims to strengthen national collaborations between universities, bridge research environments within life and data sciences, and create partnerships with industry, healthcare, and other national and international actors. We are now seeking outstanding experts in data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to support excellent research projects and participate in advanced mentoring and doctoral education at the national level. As part of our national support teams, you will become a fully integrated member of SciLifeLab's bioinformatics platform (National Bioinformatics Infrastructure Sweden: www.nbis.se), a unique national infrastructure with over 120 experts offering advanced support, infrastructure, and education in bioinformatics and data science to the Swedish life science research community, with a strong national and international collaboration network. ## Responsibilities The main tasks are to: * Perform advanced data analyses within nationally prioritized data-driven research projects in life sciences, with a focus on advanced machine learning and AI. * Develop and implement necessary tools and workflows for such analyses. * Educate other researchers across Sweden through collaboration in project support, consultations, mentoring, and advanced national doctoral education courses. * Contribute to the strategic development of advanced machine learning and AI at the bioinformatics platform, within the DDLS program, and within SciLifeLab as a whole, in close collaboration with external partners. ## Requirements We are seeking outstanding experts in machine learning and AI with experience in areas such as advanced image analysis, data structuring, and data integration, as well as large language models (LLMs) with applications in biological and biomedical research. Successful candidates must have: * A doctoral degree or equivalent work experience in image analysis, bioinformatics, data science, engineering science, physics, or equivalent. * Extensive experience (3+ years) in applying and/or developing advanced methods in machine learning and AI relevant to internationally competitive life science research. * Very good oral and written communication skills in English. * Strong collaboration and communication skills. ## Nice to Have * Relevant postdoctoral studies or equivalent experience from industry are a strong merit but not a requirement. * Programming skills in Python and experience with data science tools such as NumPy, Pandas, or Matplotlib are meritorious. * Experience with modern deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch and TensorFlow is meritorious. * "Reproducible research" and "FAIR data" are central concepts for us, and we value experience in developing reproducible code through code sharing platforms, version control, workflow languages, and container solutions. * Documented ability to responsibly and in accordance with laws and regulations use machine learning/AI methods for sensitive personal data is meritorious. * Experience with validation and/or interpretability of AI models is meritorious. ## Benefits * The employment is permanent, full-time, with a six-month probationary period. * Stockholm University applies individual salary setting. * Start date according to agreement. * You get the dynamics of the interplay between higher education and research that makes Stockholm University an exciting and creative environment. * You work in an international environment and receive favorable terms. * The workplace is located at SciLifeLab’s Stockholm campus in Solna. * Stockholm University strives to be a workplace free from discrimination and providing equal rights and opportunities for all. ## Contact Further information is provided by Björn Nystedt, [email protected] or Pär Engström, [email protected]. ## Application You apply for the employment via Stockholm University's recruitment system.
