AI Lead Engineer

## The Opportunity Hitachi Energy is establishing an AI Center of Competence (CoC) to accelerate engineering productivity, improve design quality, and enable next-generation intelligent engineering solutions across civil, mechanical, electrical, controls, and software disciplines. The AI Lead Engineer will shape the vision, establish foundational capabilities (governance, platforms, operating model), and deliver early AI pilots that create tangible value for engineers and project teams. This is a hands-on leadership role combining technical depth, domain understanding, and strong stakeholder engagement. ## How you’ll make an impact - Establish the AI Center of Competence from the ground up - Define the mission, operating model, governance framework, and technical standards for responsible AI adoption. - Build trusted partnerships with IT, cybersecurity, legal, and engineering leadership to ensure scalable, secure, and compliant AI deployment across disciplines. - Deliver measurable engineering productivity gains within the first year - Identify and execute 2–3 high impact AI pilots (e.g., engineering documentation automation, design knowledge retrieval, controls/code assistance) that demonstrably reduce engineering cycle time, improve quality, and free up expert capacity. - Translate engineering pain points into deployable AI solutions - Work hands-on with civil, mechanical, electrical, controls, and software teams to deeply understand workflows, tools (PLM, CAD, ERP, document systems), and constraints, turning real world challenges into practical, high value AI applications. - Build AI-ready data foundations for long term scale - Enable structured, governed, and discoverable engineering data by advancing data ownership, metadata standards, lineage tracking, and access control, laying the groundwork for advanced capabilities such as knowledge graphs and intelligent agents. - Bridge strategy and execution in industrial AI adoption - Act as a trusted advisor to engineering leadership, clearly articulating AI opportunities, risks, and ROI while personally leading prototyping, experimentation, and early deployment in enterprise environments. - Shape the future of intelligent engineering at scale - Define the roadmap beyond initial pilots, including AI assisted design reviews, engineering copilots, and cross disciplinary knowledge systems. ## Your background - Strong expertise in applied AI and machine learning - Proven experience designing and deploying AI solutions in enterprise environments, with particular depth in Generative AI, LLMs, NLP, and document intelligence. - Experience building production grade AI systems - Familiarity with the full AI lifecycle including data pipelines, model development, MLOps practices, and deployment on modern cloud platforms. - Understanding of engineering or industrial environments - Exposure to engineering heavy domains such as power systems, mechanical, electrical, controls, automation, or similar industrial contexts. - Experience working with complex engineering systems and data - Familiarity with tools and enterprise systems such as PLM, ERP, CAD/CAE, requirements management, or large scale document management environments. - Strong stakeholder leadership and influence - Demonstrated ability to collaborate across engineering, IT, and leadership teams, translating technical AI concepts into practical value for non-AI specialists. - Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to build from zero - Comfortable operating in ambiguous environments, establishing new capabilities, shaping strategy, and driving adoption of emerging technologies across organizations. ## What we offer - Collective agreement - Flexible working time - Health care and wellness allowance - Fantastic career possibilities within Hitachi Energy both within Sweden and globally - Mentor to support you throughout onboard phase - Various trainings and education supporting employee development - Diversified company with over 70+ nationalities working in Sweden - Supplementary compensation for parental leave - Employee Benefit Portal with thousands of discounts and perks ## More about us Are you ready for a new exciting challenge?
